Mubi has released the first teaser for Teenage Sex & Death at Camp Miasma, and if you’re into slashers that feel warped, meta, and a little dangerous, this one’s going to be on your radar fast.
The film comes from Jane Schoenbrun, the filmmaker behind the indie breakout I Saw the TV Glow, and it looks like they’re diving headfirst into franchise horror with something that is completely unhinged.
After the success of I Saw the TV Glow, Schoenbrun landed a big swing opportunity, teaming up with Brad Pitt’s production company Plan B to tackle a slasher concept that twists the genre inside out.
In the film, a queer director is hired to revive the fading Camp Miasma horror franchise. But things spiral when she becomes obsessed with casting the original movie’s “final girl,” pulling both women into psychological and sexual chaos.
With Scream 7 hitting theaters this weekend and playing in similar meta territory, this teaser feels like it’s entering the conversation at exactly the right moment. But Schoenbrun’s style is its own beast.
The film is described as: “After years of slapdash sequels and waning fandom, the Camp Miasma slasher franchise is handed over to an enthusiastic young director for cinema resurrection.
“But when she visits the original movie’s star, a now-reclusive actress shrouded in mystery, the two women fall into a blood-soaked world of desire, fear, and delirium.”
The teaser footage cranks it all up. There’s an awesome old-school horror aesthetic running through the visuals, complete with painted backdrops and retro vibes that feel ripped straight out of late-night VHS nightmares.
The film stars Hannah Einbinder and Gillian Anderson, and the supporting cast includes Amanda Fix, Arthur Conti, Eva Victor, Zach Cherry, Sarah Sherman, Patrick Fischler, Dylan Baker, Quintessa Swindell, Kevin McDonald, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Jack Haven.
Mubi is set to release Teenage Sex & Death at Camp Miasma in theaters starting August 7th, 2026.
