Fans have been calling for The Boys star Jensen Ackles to play Batman in the upcoming The Brave and The Bold film. Ackles is more than happy to answer the call, though thinks there’s another actor who may get the chance before him.
Despite being best known for his roles on The Boys and Supernatural, Jensen Ackles has a long history with the Batman franchise. Ackles has voiced Bruce Wayne in a number of animated projects such as The Long Halloween and Legion of Superheroes and even voiced Jason Todd in Under the Red Hood. This has led many fans to call for Ackles to actually take on the role of either Jason Todd or Bruce Wayne in live-action. During a recent panel, Ackles said that he’d be eager to answer the call, but he worries Pedro Pascal might steal yet another role from him:
I don’t know. Even if I knew, I wouldn’t tell you. I mean, could I do it? Sure. Would I wanna do it? Yes,” He explains before joking. “Will I be mad when Pedro Pascal gets it? Yeah. God bless you, Pedro. You just keep killing it, buddy. Let me know when you pass on something. Look, right now nobody’s talking about anything… There’s a strike going on in the entertainment industry, and until that gets solved, nobody is having conversations about anything… Would I entertain the idea of playing my favorite superhero of all time? Nah, I’m good (laughs)… I would love it. Sign me up.”
Jensen Ackles’ mention of the WGA writer’s stike is something of note, as Batman: The Brave and The Bold has likely halted all development because of it. Without a full script, it’s impossible for casting to begin properly for any of the roles, so it’ll likely be a while before fans hear any news about who gets the role. Or rather, who ends up losing the role to Pedro Pascal!
James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Universe plans
James Gunn and Peter Safran told journalists that their vision for the DC Universe includes locked scripts, wiggle room and a unified storyline across film, teleivsion, animation and video game projects. The two explained that the DC Universe could bring back elements from previous DC regimes, meaning that their eight-to-year plan is not a full reboot.
Blue Beetle and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom are currently in various stages of post-production at Warner Bros. Discovery, with both DC Universe movies slated to hit theaters in 2023. Will the characters from those movies make appearances in the new DCU? Only Gunn and Safran know.
