The Mighty Nein Voice Cast & Character Guide

Critical Role has been on fire lately, making it no surprise that there is so much hype around The Mighty Nein ahead of its debut. With the production company fresh off their collaboration with AdHoc Studio on the trending video game Dispatch, their latest TV series deserves more attention than ever, as does its stacked cast.

Their previous fantasy show still hasn’t had a bad season, as The Legend of Vox Machina continues to shine on Prime Video, becoming easily one of the platform’s best animated hits. Its performance indicates that the upcoming spinoff project has just as much potential, especially as it will be set in the same universe despite focusing on a completely new set of characters.

However, while The Mighty Nein will have a longer runtime than TLOVM and feature completely new faces, one thing that remains extremely similar is the cast. Given that both shows are based on Critical Role web series, many of the talented voice actors will be returning to breathe new life into their characters, and they should sound very familiar.

Laura Bailey as Jester Lavorre

Date of Birth: May 28, 1981

Actor: Born in Biloxi, Mississippi, Laura Bailey has become one of the most legendary voice actors around. Fresh off of stealing the internet’s heart with her role as Invisigal in 2025’s Dispatch, Bailey has also been involved in major franchises such as Marvel, DC, and The Last of Us.

She has been nominated for numerous roles, even winning a BAFTA and an award at The Game Awards for her role as Abby in The Last of Us, highlighting just how strong her resume is. If you play video games or watch dubbed anime, the chances are you’ve heard of Laura Bailey, who continues to add to her already impressive career.

Notable Roles

Character: Jester Lavorre is undoubtedly the wildcard of the group. Alongside being a lively trickster, Jester feels like the heart and soul of The Mighty Nein, bringing lots of exciting energy to their adventure. Her eccentric personality can often get her into trouble, but she does have good intentions and is one of the crew’s sweetest members.

In addition to her charm, Jester knows various spells and is able to heal her allies, making her more than worth keeping around. Therefore, she will almost certainly be a key part of the journey throughout The Mighty Nein season 1 and should bring plenty of chaos to the series.

Liam O’Brien as Caleb Widogast

Date of Birth: May 28, 1976

Actor: The New Jersey native is a key part of Critical Role and has plenty of other big projects to his name. O’Brien has been a major part of the video game industry for some time, racking up credits in some of the biggest franchises around.

In addition to his great voice acting work, O’Brien is also a talented writer, helping write episodes of Naruto and Naruto: Shippuden, as well as The Legend of Vox Machina, highlighting his versatility.

Character: As one of the group’s more reserved members, Caleb is easy to underestimate, yet he’s quietly one of the most powerful people in The Mighty Nein. He is an expert when it comes to magic, yet is often restricted by his tragic past and self-hatred.

Caleb is the type of man who likes to keep himself to himself, yet he is capable of deep love and camaraderie, especially when it comes to his team of adventurers. While he may be difficult to connect to right away, Caleb’s progression is one to look out for throughout Prime Video’s adaptation.

Ashley Johnson as Yasha Nydoorin

Date of Birth: August 9, 1983

Actor: Born in Camarillo, California, Ashley Johnson’s family moved to Michigan just days after she was born before returning to California, where the actress was raised. While she is best known for her incredible voice work, she does also have plenty of live-action credits as well, even earning a small role in The Avengers.

By far her most iconic performance is as Ellie in The Last of Us, as the character captured the audience’s heart, creating an emotional story to remember. She also appeared as Ellie’s mother in HBO’s The Last of Us adaptation and is an impressive singer as well, making Johnson one of the best talents in the industry.

Character: Yasha’s terrifying appearance isn’t just for show, as she is a battle-tested barbarian capable of defeating countless powerful enemies. Naturally, many might assume she leans towards villainy at first glance, especially given her dismissive attitude, but she is good at her core.

Even though she doesn’t join the group right away, having an enforcer like Yasha around is key to overcoming most confrontations and escaping with their lives. Thankfully, she is committed to The Mighty Nein and learns to come out of her shell, forming a good bond with the others, something that will be fun to watch during the animated series.

Marisha Ray as Beauregard “Beau” Lionett

Date of Birth: May 10, 1989

Actor: Born in Kentucky, Marisha Ray has become a key part of Critical Role, appearing in many of the company’s biggest productions. Alongside the Dungeons and Dragons campaigns, Ray has been involved in The Legend of Vox Machina, Dispatch, and now The Mighty Nein, as well as numerous other projects.

The award-winning voice actress is also known for her impressive cosplays and works as a producer and creative director as well. All these strings to her bow make her a strong asset to have on board for the new Prime Video show, with her character seeming destined to be a stand-out.

Notable Roles

Character: Beauregard Lionett, AKA Beau, is a monk of the Cobalt Soul who believes strongly in the organization before learning about the traitors involved. Driven by the urge to do good, she winds up becoming a part of The Mighty Nein, using her investigative skills and strong combat to expose and root out corruption.

Although she can be confrontational at times, Beau is a strong believer in not judging people too harshly unless they directly impact her and her beliefs. In turn, she can be one of the more hot-headed members of the group, yet she is also one of the most heroic.

Sam Riegel as Nott the Brave

Date of Birth: October 9, 1976

Actor: Sam Riegel was born in Washington, D.C. and has become a voice acting veteran over the past few decades. Like the rest of The Mighty Nein‘s main cast, he is well-known for his involvement in Critical Role-based projects, but also has a healthy experience in the world of video games and animated hits.

Playing Donatello in the 2003 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles show remains his most prominent role, but the actor has shown plenty of range throughout his career, making it no surprise that his latest character has a very distinct voice and personality.

Notable Roles

Character: With goblins being largely unwelcome in The Mighty Nein‘s main location, Nott the Brave — formerly known as Veth Brenatto — comes across as mischievous and mysterious upon her introduction. However, it becomes clear that she is simply trying to survive this often cruel world by remaining inconspicuous.

Trust doesn’t come easily to her, and she often relies on alcohol to calm her otherwise nervous and agitated personality. Fortunately, The Mighty Nein gives her more of a purpose and allows her to reform her destructive tendencies while finally becoming invested in others.

Taliesin Jaffe as Mollymauk “Molly” Tealeaf

Date of Birth: January 19, 1977

Actor: Another Californian native, Taliesin Jaffe grew up in Los Angeles and started acting as a child, with his parents both being parts of the entertainment industry. In addition to his memorable voice acting contributions, Jaffe has also written and directed several projects, making him an all-around talent.

He has had parts in live-action TV shows as well, but his Critical Role work remains his most iconic.

Notable Roles

Character: Mollymauk Tealeaf, better known as Molly, is one of the livelier and more flamboyant characters involved in The Mighty Nein. The thrill-seeking performer is arguably the most vocal of the team, as he is full of confidence, even in the face of danger.

The fortune-teller and sword juggler is addicted to adventure, hence associating with the Mighty Nein. Likewise, he is completely happy with the person he has become and has no interest in learning about his childhood, making him a truly free spirit that should be fun to watch in Prime Video’s adaptation.

Travis Willingham as Fjord Stone

Date of Birth: August 3, 1981

Actor: Travis Willingham is at the heart of all things Critical Role related, as alongside being a founding member, he is also the current CEO. Born in Dallas, Texas, the actor has over 400 credits on IMDb, voicing characters like Marvel’s Thor, Mortal Kombat‘s Raiden, and DC’s Superman, and they’re just the tip of the iceberg.

His track record speaks for itself, and while Willingham is most associated with playing more macho, masculine characters, he has a great voice that lends itself to all kinds of roles, hence his huge success.

Notable Roles

Character: While Fjord may seem like a typical brute at first glance, he is far more versatile than meets the eye. Despite being an honest and honorable figure, Fjord’s skill set is actually perfect for deception, as he can change his voice and appearance with ease, a feat others encourage him to embrace.

He is always willing to put himself on the line for others and has an overall admirable attitude. Whether he can match Willingham’s previous character is yet to be seen, as Grog is arguably The Legend of Vox Machina‘s most likable character, but Fjord definitely has a lot of potential to be a fan favorite in the upcoming show.

The Mighty Nein Supporting Cast & Characters

Matthew Mercer as Essek Thelyss: While Essek is a member of The Mighty Nein, it’s unclear how much of his story will be adapted in the first season as he doesn’t feature much in the trailers. Still, with Matthew Mercer being a huge part of Critical Role, who also had a big part in TLOVM, it seems inevitable that his character will become more prominent as the show goes on.

Mark Strong as Trent Ikithon: Mark Strong is a well-renowned actor known for 1917 and the Kingsman movies, while his underrated performance in 2024’s The Penguin often goes under the radar.

However, he’s also a talented voice actor, hence playing The Mighty Nein‘s main villain. Trent Ikithon is a powerful wizard with ruthless intentions, and he will be the show’s biggest threat throughout its first season.

Lucy Liu as Empress Leylas Kryn: Having been a central part of Kill Bill‘s cast as well as Kung Fu Panda‘s, it’s safe to say Lucy Liu has plenty of range, making her addition to The Mighty Nein all the more fascinating.

Although the Empress is calmer in the present day, she was once a fierce warrior, with her fighting spirit still very much alive, making her one of many additional cast members who could steal the show.
