Fans were shocked when Ariana Grande and Ethan Slater‘s split was announced earlier this week, but those on the inside saw it coming from a mile away!
Insiders spilled the tea to DailyMail.com on Tuesday, saying Ari has a “pattern” when it comes to “all-consuming” romances. She’s quick to “fall hard and fast,” but it’s far too easy for her to “get swept up” in a new project, which pulls her out of the romance! One insider dished:
“Ariana and relationships have always been a bit of a complicated mix. She tends to fall hard and fast, and when she does, it’s all-consuming.”
And fall hard for Ethan, she did! She moved on from her ex-husband so fast, fans speculated she’d cheated with Ethan while working on Wicked together. Remember: he’d just filed for a divorce days before news of their relationship broke! They caused a lot of drama being together, but they seemingly didn’t care.

Addressing Ariana’s love life, one source said she finds it “easy” to “move on” — and new projects tend to mess up her relationships:
“The person she’s with gets her full attention, and it’s easy to get swept up in that. But then something shifts. A new project comes along — a movie, a tour — and suddenly, the relationship isn’t the center of her world anymore.”
They added:
“That’s a pattern people around her have seen play out more than once. From what friends say, Ethan would have preferred the relationship continue, but Ariana has always followed her own instincts. When she’s ready to move on, she does.”
Well, that would make sense considering she and Ethan would’ve split in the lead-up to her new tour!
A second source chimed in to say that the couple chose to break up “several months” ago. It was “amicable,” and they are still “very supportive of one another.” A third source said the pair’s dynamic was “passionate” but “up-and-down,” adding:
“The relationship has always been up-and-down, back-and-forth, ebb and flow. I think that’s just what happens when you get two very passionate people together.”
That said, they insisted Ari “did not cheat,” detailing:
“They fight, they drift apart, they get back together, they make up. She did not cheat on him. That’s just not true. Whatever has happened in her past, she and Ethan talk through things, and there’s no bad blood there.”
While she’s doing fewer tour stops than usual, the performer’s inner circle is still very worried about her. Not only is Ariana now dealing with the heartbreak of a big breakup, but fans have also been expressing concerns over her physical and mental well-being. And the concerns are felt by those close to her, a source said:
“For Ariana, the last few years have been incredibly demanding and there has been very little downtime. …. The concern from people close to her is that she’s spent so much time taking care of everyone else that she hasn’t given herself the opportunity to slow down and recharge.”
A fourth insider said:
“People who know her well and care deeply are anxious that she might have taken on too much. … The fact that she’s been involved with almost every aspect of the tour is a heavy task in itself. She’s a total perfectionist and everything has to go right, night after night. That’s a huge ordeal she’s putting herself through for three months. The fact the tour could take its toll on her is definitely stressful.”
Fans have been vocal with worry ever since the Eternal Sunshine Tour started last week. Those concerned fear the physical demands of touring may take a toll on the singer, especially after the breakup. The source acknowledged “there’s already concern for her well-being.” Apparently, the Victorious alum’s inner circle “are keeping an eye on things” and monitoring if the physical and emotional demands of the tour become too much. They’re also hoping Ariana will take on a “healthier overall lifestyle and routine” once settled into tour, the first source said, noting that the bigger concern is that Ariana will simply move on to her next project too quickly without giving herself enough time to rest after this tour concludes in September.
The fourth confidant said:
“She wants to prove something to herself by doing the tour.”
We just hope she doesn’t push herself too far!
