The next video game set for a film/TV adaptation has been announced, and it is developer RubberBandGames’ sandbox game Wobbly Life.
The London-based developer has announced a deal with veteran Hollywood producer Adrian Askarieh and his Prime Universe Films company to develop Wobbly Life for film and TV. This does not mean that Wobbly Life will definitely become a film or a TV series, only that the company has secured the rights and may begin the development process.
Prime Universe previously produced the Hitman movies starring Timothy Olyphant and Rupert Friend. Askarieh is also attached to the in-development Hitman TV show in the works now.
Askarieh said in a statement that he was drawn to Wobbly Life and saw the appeal in its “quirky characters.”
“Its meteoric growth shows the strength of the universe and I’m excited to work with RubberBandGames to bring it into film and television. This world has a tone, identity, and characters that lend themselves to storytelling across multiple formats,” he said.
What is Wobbly Life?
Wobbly Life was initially developed as a “passion project” by a single developer and launched in 2019. The open-world sandbox game supports 1-4 players and is set on a colorful island where people are invited to live their best “Wobbly Life.” A update this year expanded the game’s setting to outer space.
The game has become something of a sensation, reaching more than 2.8 million copies sold and surpassing 6 million players and 10 million monthly user sessions. The player numbers include people playing Wobbly Life through Xbox Game Pass, where it’s available on the lower-price Premium tier.
Wobbly Life has an “overwhelmingly positive” aggregate review score on Steam. It is also available on Nintendo Switch and PS5.
