The Avengers Tower is under new management! The director of Thunderbolts gives his thoughts on one of the MCU’s longest spanning mysteries.
2017 was a simpler time in the MCU. All the OG heroes were still alive, the fandom was united, and Disney Plus was only a dream in Bob Iger’s eye. However, it was a year that also birthed one of the biggest mysteries in the MCU. During the events of Spider-Man: Homecoming, it was revealed that Avengers Tower was being vacated and taken under new management. Leading to nearly a decade of exhausting speculation about who its new owner may be.
Yet after all this time, fans may finally have their answer. When speaking on the upcoming Thunderbolts film, director Jake Schreier tipped his hand about who the new owner of Avengers Tower is. That being, the MCU’s newest sneaky old person to replace Nick Fury: Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. Better known as Val, and played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus, the character is now the proud owner of what was once a symbol of heroism. And it seems like that’s far from a good thing.
“We know what that tower means,” Schreier told Empire in a recent interview. “Who’s the person you would least like to own that tower, that means so much to so many people? Can you use that as a symbol of things taking a darker turn?”
Does Val Own Avengers Tower?
Of course, Val owning Avengers Tower doesn’t mean much in a literal sense. Her owning a land deed isn’t going to magically save her from the bullet one (or more) of the Thunderbolts is aiming for her head. However, it does give some hints as to the character’s plans leading into the future of the MCU. Namely, that this may be leading to the formation of the Dark Avengers.
The Dark Avengers are a team of villains disguised as Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, and have long-been rumored to join the MCU. If the Thunderbolts are set to be the prototype for this team, it’s possible that the use of Avengers Tower may be setting up for the real thing sometime down the line, potentially once the Multiverse Saga comes to an end. After all, what would be better than Avengers Vs X-Men than X-Men Vs Evil Avengers?
Thunderbolts is currently set to hit theaters on May 2, 2025. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
