You might — oh, who are we kidding. You definitely remember when former Try Guy Ned Fulmer left YouTube comedy group the Try Guys back in 2022, after allegations emerged that he’d cheated on his wife, Ariel Fulmer, with a colleague.
At the time, the chatter around the story was loud — and it got even louder when the three remaining Try Guys released a video claiming that fans “alerted” them to Ned’s wayward behavior.
But all scandals eventually fade from public view, which is exactly what happened over the past three years. Now, Ned has re-emerged to tell his side of the story.
In a new interview with People, Ned explained that, in the aftermath of the allegations emerging, he spent time “trying to understand why I had done what I had done,” as his wife was who he “cared the most about.”
“That was most devastating to work through and to realize — how much pain I had caused her,” he said. “If I were looking at a past version of myself, how I’d really want to change [is] the way I’d been interacting with her. It’s pretty well known that I was presenting myself as a wife guy who talked about his adorable relationship. It was something fans seemed to resonate with and I leaned into consciously. It certainly was a part of my life.”
“It’s obviously not how real relationships work,” he continued, while discussing the strangeness of having a public persona and a private life. “And I think that disconnect was challenging for me to deal with, and I obviously dealt with it in a very self-destructive and painful way…I understand that that’s why it was such a big scandal — because it’s ironic and it feels like a rug pull to people. That must have been really painful and devastating to the viewers.”
Ned went on to share that he and his wife were able to move forward through doing therapy together, and that they’ve since established a “foundation of trust” in their relationship.
“It’s certainly stronger than it was before,” he added while talking about the current state of his marriage. “We have a much clearer sense of boundaries — understanding and respecting each other’s boundaries — as well as integrity and being direct with each other, even when it might be unpleasant.”
