EXCLUSIVE: Multi-platinum, Grammy-nominated artist Tyga is set to make his feature debut in a starring role in Baby, You’re a Star, a coming-of-age musical drama that he’s also producing and wrote with Curtis Bryant.
Co-starring Madison Bailey (Outer Banks) and Ashton Sanders (Moonlight), the film is set in 1989 and follows an ambitious young artist determined to break free from the limitations of his environment, as he navigates love, identity, and the pursuit of artistic expression.
Currently in production in Portland, Oregon, pic’s cast also includes Apollonia, Clifton Powell, Patrick Cage, David Alan Grier, and Mike Epps.
Veteran music video helmer Arrad Rahgoshay is directing in his feature debut, with Brian Sher and Eric Tomosunas producing alongside Tyga.
A rapper, songwriter and entrepreneur born Micheal Ray Stevenson, Tyga broke into mainstream hip-hop in the 2010s with his single “Rack City,” which peaked at No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was certified multi-platinum. This was the lead single for his major-label debut album Careless World: Rise of the Last King (2012), which debuted in the Top 5 of the Billboard 200.
Tyga has since released multiple charting albums and mixtapes, including Hotel California and The Gold Album: 18th Dynasty. His catalog has earned billions of global streams and numerous multi-platinum certifications. He is repped by Independent Artist Group and Artist Collective Entertainment.
