A Las Vegas man has been arrested for allegedly stabbing his wife to death next to their sleeping 5-year-old.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department first broke the news of the crime, revealing that 53-year-old Moises Sanchez had been arrested over the weekend and charged with the first-degree murder of his wife Veronica Cortes-Rosales. A horrifying set of circumstances on their own, but when you get down into the details, everything just gets sicker…
A probable cause affidavit was obtained by Law&Crime, the suspect confessed to law enforcement that he thought his wife was having an affair because she was “not affectionate with him anymore” so he became paranoid about their relationship — going as far as to stalk her at work and use a friend’s car so she wouldn’t recognize him. He even lied about a broken down car to try and get her to come help him. They’d already been having some trouble within their marriage and “would not have sex,” but they agreed to stay “friends” for the sake of their kiddos. But sadly, all that would soon come to a head and end in a bloodbath.

As the couple laid in the bed with their 5-year-old daughter, at some point Sanchez allegedly tried to cuddle and be affectionate with his wife, but she rejected his advances. It’s at this point police allege he became enraged and “lost it” before “retrieved a hunting knife which he kept in a drawer next to the bed” and stabbed her in the back.
The most disgusting detail of all, though, was how he didn’t allow his wife to scream for help, according to the report:
“Moises said she tried to scream, but he ‘didn’t let her’ … he said he told her to ‘shut the f**k up’ because she would wake up the kids.”
After the initial stabbing, the patriarch was said to have noticed blood getting on the sleeping little one’s pajamas, and he woke her up and changed her clothes before putting her in her own bed (which was in the same room). He then allegedly went back and stabbed his wife again, killing her.
It’s reported after the killing, he is accused of telling a friend of the crime, and eventually confessing to police his attempts at affections were “tests”:
“if Veronica had responded to his affection in bed, he would not have killed her.”
Sanchez is currently in police custody and will have a preliminary hearing on March 11.
An absolutely horrifying situation, our hearts go out to the children who so cruelly and senselessly had their mother taken from them. May the victim rest in peace.
