Is Venom finally getting his own animated movie? Sony is reportedly changing course with their franchise following their series of live-action flops.
Sony’s history with superhero films is certain to go down in the history books. The studio put out flop after flop with both audiences and critics in an attempt to make a Spider-Man universe without Spider-Man. In the end, the only success they had was a movie series starring Venom. Even then, that appeared to be most popular with teens who knew that the project was incredibly campy.
And now with Sony stepping away from the live-action Spider-Man villain films (seemingly) for good, a new rumor gives the company a new direction to take its blockbuster IP. Scooper MyTimeToShineHello reveals that an animated movie focused on Venom is officially in the works, but the insider didn’t share any details beyond that.
What Would A Venom Animated Movie Be About?
Surprisingly, this rumor isn’t the first time fans have heard about a Venom animated movie. Last year, it was reported by defunct leaker “CanWeGetSomeToast” that Seth Rogen would be helming an animated project based on the symbiote. While it’s not confirmed that these two projects are the same, it wouldn’t be shocking if Sony tapped the comedian to adapt the Spider-Man villain, given his prior successes with adult animation like Invincible.
As for the movie itself, the success of the R-rated live-action Venom films likely means that Sony will skew this animated version more mature. It’ll also likely be 3D animated, likely being worked on by some of the same team members who made the Spider-Verse films. Though given Beyond the Spider-Verse isn’t due out for quite some time, this rumor may take a while to come to light.
