Warner Bros. Animation, DC, and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment announced a multi-part animated event, Batman: Knightfall, at the “Art Knight: Batman in Animation” panel on Friday at New York Comic Con 2025.
Batman: Knightfall adapts the 1993-1994 comic book event of the same name by Doug Moench, Chuck Dixon, Alan Grant, Dennis O’Neil, Peter David, Jo Duffy, Jim Aparo, Graham Nolan, Norm Breyfogle, and Jim Balent. Part 1: Knightfall is currently in production and is slated for release in 2026.
After Bane releases Batman’s entire Rogues Gallery from Arkham Asylum, Bruce Wayne is pushed beyond his breaking point and quickly hits burnout. In the comic event, which takes place across a six-month time period in the trilogy entitled Knightfall, Knightquest, and KnightsEnd, Bruce is replaced as Batman by his apprentice, Jean-Paul Valley AKA Azrael, who ruins the Caped Crusader’s hard-won reputation when he becomes increasingly violent and erratic.
As events unfold during the storyline, Batman realizes the detriment of working completely alone. Knightfall thus redefines Bruce’s relationship with Gotham City and leads to the creation of the modern Bat-Family. An animated adaptation has been a long time coming.
Batman: Knightfall Part 1: Knightfall is directed by Jeff Wamester and written by Jeremy Adams, with Rick Morales as supervising producer alongside executive producers Sam Register and Michael Uslan and producers Kimberly S. Moreau and Kim King.
