This week, Oklou covered “Hey There Delilah” by Plain White T’s on triple j’s Like a Version. Originally, Oklou planned to play guitar for the track, but after not wanting to cut her nails, she went with the cello instead, alongside Florian Le Prisé on acoustic guitar. “I used to be a cello player, but it was a challenge because I hadn’t played in four years,” Oklou says.
“I chose to cover this song because I used to play it when I was a teenager,” Oklou continues. “I was a big fan of this song. I think the melody is amazing. There’s a big potential for vocal harmonies, so my friends were always blasting the harmonies when we would cover it. It’s just nice memories for me.”

Last year, Oklou released her debut LP, Choke Enough, and its deluxe counterpart, which included collaborations with Bladee, underscores, and FKA twigs. Later this spring, she’ll embark on a tour across America, with an early stop at Coachella.
