Few pieces of technology in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Spider-Man franchise carried as much responsibility as Tony Stark’s EDITH glasses. Introduced in Spider-Man: Far From Home, the sunglasses housed “Even Dead, I’m The Hero,” an advanced artificial intelligence system that gave its user access to Stark Industries’ global satellite network, surveillance capabilities, military-grade drones, and enough firepower to make most governments nervous.
Tony specifically intended the glasses to be passed on to Peter Parker, making them part of his legacy following the events of Avengers: Endgame. Unfortunately, Peter handed control of EDITH to Quentin Beck, better known as Mysterio. Beck used the technology to orchestrate the massive London attack that served as the climax of Far From Home. Peter ultimately reclaims the glasses and shuts down Beck’s operation, seemingly restoring Tony’s final gift to its rightful owner.
However, EDITH’s story didn’t end there. In fact, the glasses essentially disappeared from the MCU after Far From Home. While Peter continued using Stark technology in Spider-Man: No Way Home, EDITH itself became conspicuously absent, leaving many wondering what happened to one of the most powerful pieces of equipment Tony Stark ever created.
The EDITH Glasses Were Taken By The Department Of Damage Control
At the conclusion of Spider-Man: Far From Home, Mysterio’s accomplices released a fabricated video that framed Spider-Man for the London drone attack and publicly revealed Peter Parker’s secret identity. As part of the investigation, the United States Department of Damage Control searched Peter’s home and collected evidence related to the Mysterio incident. Among the items examined were the EDITH glasses themselves.
The glasses were photographed as evidence, effectively placing them under government control during the investigation. This explains why EDITH never plays an active role during the events of No Way Home despite the enormous threats Peter faces throughout the film.
There’s actually a subtle confirmation of this later in the movie. When Peter accesses the Iron Spider Armor’s heads-up display, EDITH is listed as “offline.” This suggests that Damage Control either confiscated the glasses entirely or disabled Peter’s access to the system while the investigation remained ongoing.
Notably, Marvel has never shown the glasses being returned. This creates an interesting loose end within the MCU. EDITH controlled a satellite network and an army of drones originally developed by Stark Industries. Given the power contained within the system, it’s understandable why Damage Control would be reluctant to hand it back to a teenager who had recently been accused of an international drone attack, even if those accusations were ultimately dropped.
Following Doctor Strange’s memory spell at the end of No Way Home, the situation becomes even murkier. With the world forgetting Peter Parker entirely, it’s unclear whether anyone would even realize the glasses were originally intended for him.
What Happened To The Rest Of Spider-Man’s Stark Tech?
The other most significant piece of surviving Stark equipment was the Iron Spider Armor, originally introduced in Avengers: Infinity War. Built using nanotechnology, the suit gave Peter access to advanced combat capabilities, enhanced durability, and the iconic mechanical spider legs. Throughout No Way Home, it remained one of his most powerful assets.
During Peter’s early battle with Otto Octavius on the bridge, the Iron Spider nanites began interacting with Doc Ock’s tentacles. Later, after Peter successfully cured Octavius by replacing his damaged inhibitor chip with a new Neural Inhibitor, Otto used those same nanites to upgrade Peter’s costume. The result was the Integrated Suit, which combined elements of Peter’s Upgraded Suit from Far From Home with surviving Iron Spider technology.
During the climactic battle against the multiversal villains, Peter relied heavily on the Integrated Suit instead. By the time the conflict reached Happy Hogan’s destroyed condominium, most of the remaining Iron Spider components had effectively been stripped away or abandoned. Peter left what remained of the original armor behind in the aftermath of the battle.
At the end of No Way Home, Doctor Strange casts the spell that erases Peter Parker from everyone’s memory. He moved into a small apartment, sewed a brand-new comic-accurate red-and-blue costume, and embraced a more independent version of Spider-Man.
The retirement of the Integrated Suit symbolized the end of Peter’s Stark era. Tony’s technology had guided him through Homecoming, Far From Home, and No Way Home, but by the film’s final scene, Spider-Man was operating without billionaire resources, satellite weapons, or nanotech armor.
