Manifesting your dreams may seem like a great idea, but then again, we’ve all been warned to be careful what we wish for. In writer/artist Ilias Kyriazis’s new graphic novel, What We Wished For, available now from Humanoids, a group of friends face unexpected consequences from wishes they made as kids—and if they’re not careful, their dreams could quickly devolve into nightmares.
“Michael, Angie, and Dale are three of the main characters of the book,” Kyriazis tells The Beat. “Their situation at first reflects some of the worst feelings associated with middle age—grief, dissatisfaction and bitterness. That changes.”
In What We Wished For, kids Michael, Angie, and Dale encounter a supernatural being after a comet passes overhead and are granted one wish each. Unfortunately, they think about their wishes for too long and the comet disappears—then returns 35 years later, bringing with it the manifestation of their wishes.
The thing is, each of their childhood desires haunt their adult selves in surprising ways and they must face the consequences of their wishes lest something terrible happen.

“What We Wished For is very personal to me. It’s a story I had in my mind ever since I first started thinking about the passage of time and the possibility of not all my dreams coming true,” said Kyriazis in the book’s announcement. “It took me years to feel ready but it’s time to reach out with my comics and attempt to connect with everyone who feels the same.”
What We Wished For is available at your local comic shop and everywhere books are sold.
