I admit, these kind of Zines have a soft spot in my heart, to build your own story alongside others is pretty great for a TTRPG — even more so when you’re armed with little more than a pen, a journal, and a pair of dice. The players explore a mysterious town through guided prompts that push them deeper into creeping dread, fractured memories, and personal choice. Each decision shapes the narrative, turning the journal itself into a record of survival, obsession, or collapse. The kind of thing that Game masters love to look back through and see the chaos that came from their stories.
While it’s designed for solitary play, the game uses atmosphere, introspection, and psychological tension over mechanics-heavy systems. Essentially you get more of lore heavy game play. However, with production already complete and a limited hardcover run available, Write Through the Fear offers a focused, unsettling experience for players who enjoy horror storytelling, reflective play, and games that linger.Â
