Whitney Leavitt revealed she may exit Secret Lives of Mormon Wives – as she celebrated a record in ticket sales after landing the role of Roxie Hart in Chicago. Meanwhile, SLOMW has been filming as well, though it allegedly was halted after a fight between Taylor Frankie Paul and her ex Dakota Mortensen.
Originally, Sunday, March 15 was set to be Whitney’s last performance for Chicago, six weeks after she first took the Broadway stage. But the demand for tickets was so high they asked her to keep going. She’ll start again on March 23 and end May 3. Whitney is also starring in a holiday film to be released later this year.
In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Whitney hinted that it “feels like it’s time” to exit SLOMW.
“I wouldn’t be where I am without [SLOMW],” said Whitney, via Page Six. “But it feels like it’s time to challenge myself in other ways and fulfill these dreams and passions that I’ve been trying to get even before the show.”
“Well, I’m figuring it out in real time,” she said, referring to the hard decision she’ll have to make. “[My husband and I are] figuring it out together. … But it feels like that’s the trajectory of where it’s going.”
According to Whitney, she’s filming the new season of ‘Mormon Wives,’ but she’s questioning if she can keep going – due to her busy timetable.
As for whether her costars expect her to turn down opportunities, Whitney answered, “I don’t know if that’s an expectation.”
“I wouldn’t be where I am without that platform and this group that we created, this business that we created, but maybe it’s time for me to branch out in other areas,” Whitney added. “And I feel, today, that each one of them would support me in that.”
But even if she leaves ‘Mormon Wives,’ Whitney said she won’t “ever close a door” to reality television.
Around the same time, PEOPLE reported that Whitney will extend her run on Chicago as Roxie Hart, after it was announced that her Dancing with the Stars partner Mark Ballas will join her in the cast (playing the role of Billy Flynn).
Last week, Chicago earned the highest weekly ticket sales out of its 29-year history, according to a press release. They scored $1,457,930.77, outdoing its former record from December of 2023. In total, Whitney’s first six weeks brought in $8,049,526.31.
In an Instagram post, Whitney shared her reaction: “Screaming!!!! Crying!!!!! Wouldn’t have been able to do it without you guys!”
