Did Harrison Ford ghost Mark Ruffalo? The Captain America: Brave New World star reveals why he didn’t contact his fellow gamma-irradiated actor about Red Hulk!
One of the most highly-anticipated aspects of Captain America: Brave New World is finally being able to see Red Hulk on the silver screen after nearly 20 years of waiting. The cherry on top is that the character will be portrayed by legendary actor Harrison Ford, being the third actor to play a Hulk in the MCU following Mark Ruffalo and Tatiana Maslany.
This led many to wonder if Harrison Ford reached out to any of his fellow Hulks for advice on portraying Red Hulk in Captain America: Brave New World. When asked about this very subject during an interview, Ford admitted that Mark Ruffalo wasn’t available during the time they were filming. This meant he mostly had to wing his performance as the Crimson Goliath without advice from prior actors in the MCU.
“[Mark Ruffalo] wasn’t available for consultation, I just had to wing it,” Ford explained during a chat with On Demand Entertainment. “I hope he’s not disappointed!”
Harrison Ford Talks Replacing William Hurt As Red Hulk
Longtime fans of the MCU know that Captain America: Brave New World isn’t the first time Red Hulk’s alter ego Thaddeus Ross has appeared. The character was portrayed for years by William Hurt prior to his tragic passing in 2022. Harrison Ford is set to pick up the mantle from him in the upcoming projects, as well as potential future projects in the MCU. When asked about what it was like to take on such an iconic role, Ford admits there is a large sense of responsibility to the job.
“It then becomes your responsibility to fill out the shoes that have walked before you. And I had a lot of help from the script because the character’s life becomes more complicated and interesting, perhaps. But the level of dramatic involvement here is very high. It’s kind of operatic.”
Given how sensitive a colleague’s passing is in any profession, it’s good to hear that Harrison Ford is taking the responsibility of the Red Hulk mantle with utmost respect. While reports suggest that the character won’t have a large amount of screen time in Captain America: Brave New World, there certainly seems to be hope that Ford continues to play the role in the MCU for some time to come.
Captain America: Brave New World is currently slated to hit theaters on February 14, 2025. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
