When Taylor Swift sang ‘drop everything now, meet me in the pouring rain’, Sydney fans probably didn’t count on her meaning it literally.
According to weather predictions, the pop star’s Sydney Eras Tour shows are expected to be clouded by some cruel summer weather, putting her performances in doubt.
The Bureau of Meteorology has given a severe thunderstorm warning for this Friday and Saturday, which is the first two dates of Swift’s Sydney shows at Accor Stadium.

But despite warnings of heavy rainfall, winds and even hailstones, there’s one reason it’s unlikely the singer will cancel her upcoming shows.
Sydney fans who attended the singer’s last Australian tour for her album Reputation back in 2018 will remember similar weather concerns for the concert.
The Sydney Reputation Stadium Tour show was clouded by rain and lightning, with the singer and fans getting drenched in the downpour.
But despite the electrical storm which delayed the concert, Swift did not cancel the show – she played right through it.
Speaking to Nova’s Smallzy in 2018 after the show, Swift said the Sydney concert was “so much fun because we all just danced in the rain together.”

“When I was younger I thought that like, if it rained, like everyone would leave,” she admitted, confessing that she used to be “so scared” of it pouring before seeing fans embrace the wild weather conditions.
“I’m not going to cancel a show no matter what, unless physically they tell me that none of us can be on stage,” she confirmed on the radio.
Across her entire 16-year long career, Taylor has only ever cancelled a show once.

All the stars spotted at Taylor Swift’s Australian Eras Tour shows
In 2014, Swift was forced to cancel her Bangkok show on the Red Tour following a military coup in Thailand. But when it comes to the weather, she performs rain, hail or shine.
In 2023, the singer had to postpone the second night of her Rio de Janeiro Eras Tour leg due to ‘extreme temperatures’ following a fan’s death the night before.
“The decision has been made to postpone tonight’s show due to the extreme temperatures in Rio,” she wrote to Instagram at the time.
“The safety and well-being of my fans, fellow performers, and crew has to and always will come first,” she said before the postponed show went ahead on Monday night.
Swift’s rain shows have become a phenomenon amongst fans as they take Swift’s lyrics ‘But with you I’d dance in a storm in my best dress, Fearless’ to heart.
At one of her 2023 Eras Tour shows at Gillette Stadium, Swift spoke about her very first rain show at the exact same venue over a decade ago on her Speak Now Tour.
After seeing how much fans embraced that first rain show and all the ones since, Swift said it “makes it more fun” for her and her team because the crowd are “up for it.”
