Could Cyclops be coming sooner than fans expect? Tye Sheridan gives his thoughts on making his return as the iconic X-Men leader in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Cyclops was always cursed in the X-Men films. The original trilogy of films had such a strong focus on characters like Wolverine, Professor X, and Magneto that the team’s head was left on the cutting room floor. This left many hopeful that the soft reboot of Days of Future Past would give Tye Sheridan a chance to truly shine as the character.
However, a mix of jumbled priorities and a quickly sinking ship of a universe left Tye Sheridan severely underutilized during his time in the X-Men universe. This left many hoping for his version of Cyclops to potentially get redemption in the MCU. And with the multiverse saga coming to a close within the next few years, it truly seems like a sink-or-swim moment for the studio to make a decision when it comes to his return.
Will Tye Sheridan Return As Cyclops In The MCU?
The idea of the actor making a return as Cyclops was broached during a recent conversation with ScreenRant. When asked if there was any chance for him to make his return as Cyclops in the MCU, Tye Sheridan admitted that he didn’t know of any discussions for him to reprise his role as the leader of the X-Men. However, he does believe there are more stories to tell with his version of the character.
“I don’t know. I don’t think there’s a question if there’s more stories to tell. I think there’s probably always more stories to tell. The question is whether audiences have a desire for those stories and whether we feel like those types of films have been oversaturated or they’re not, or if there’s a new way to make those films. But yeah, I’m not real sure.”
Given how heavily the X-Men’s presence in the multiverse saga has focused on the original era of films, it’s not likely that Tye Sheridan or the rest of his reboot cast will have the chance to make their return in the MCU. Though given how massive Avengers: Secret Wars is meant to be, it’s not entirely impossible for him to make a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it cameo as Cyclops in the film’s climax.
