The Antler Queen’s reign was fruitful. This week, Paramount+ unveiled streaming numbers from Season 3 of Yellowjackets and it looks like fans of the series were more excited than ever with it. According to the streamer, seven days after the Season 3 finale “Full Circle” dropped on the platform, it had reached 3 million viewers — a record for the thriller series. In streaming numbers alone, this represents an increase of 52% when compared to viewership numbers from the Season 2 finale. Showtime is yet to announce if the show is coming back for another season.
Paramount+ also revealed that the overall performance of Season 3 was also reason for celebration: the latest season was the most watched of the series so far. Even though the streamer wasn’t specific about numbers, they did indicate that their metrics is related to a seven-day window of viewership after a new episode drops. At this moment, the Christina Ricci (Wednesday) and Melanie Lynskey (The Last of Us) series is the second most-streamed Showtime original series ever, losing only to Dexter: Original Sin.
In an official statement, co-CEO of Paramount Global and President of Showtime and MTV Entertainment Studios Chris McCarthy praised the work of series’ showrunners Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson and underscored the potential of stories with unique elements. He stated:
“’Yellowjackets’ is a fiercely original, genre-bending phenomenon – an electrifying blend of psychological horror, survival thriller and coming-of-age drama from the brilliant minds of Ashley and Bart and brought to life by our stellar cast. Season 3 drove record numbers and was key to maintaining Paramount+’s ranking as a top three SVOD for original series’ minutes, proving the power of our differentiated strategy with fewer, bigger, breakthrough series.”
Is ‘Yellowjackets’ Renewed For Season 4?
Fans are still waiting for official word from Showtime that the Antler Queen and the story of “it” will continue, but the viewership numbers are certainly a positive factor that will weigh in on the network’s decision. It’s very important that the series returns, though, because there are still several loose ends that need to be tied up before we say goodbye. If Season 4 is greenlit, chances are that we will see a lot more of Hilary Swank (Million Dollar Baby), who was introduced by the end of Season 3 as the adult version of Melissa (TK).
