Cole Hauser recently shared an update about the upcoming Yellowstone spin-off centered around Beth and Rip. Kelly Reilly and Hauser have signed on to reprise their roles as Beth and Rip, respectively.
While speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Hauser teased the spin-off’s focus and shared his excitement for what’s to come for his character.
“Kelly and I, we’re focused on [Rip and Beth’s] relationship and our love together, and what we’re going to get [them] into,” Hauser said. “I’m excited just like everybody else. I can’t wait to see what they come up with. Hopefully, we’ll start seeing stuff soon.”
There will be an adjustment period for Hauser, who expressed the difficulties of returning to Rip without the majority of the Yellowstone cast. Hauser spotlighted one specific actor whom he will miss working with.
“Not having the cast around certainly [is hard],” Hauser added. “Forrie J. Smith has become such a great friend of mine that to think that my right-hand guy wouldn’t be there [is hard].” Smith played Lloyd Pierce, the oldest ranch hand on the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch, who worked alongside Rip.
What is the Yellowstone spin-off with Beth and Rip about?
News of a Yellowstone spin-off starring Reilly and Hauser dates back to August, a few months before the final season of Yellowstone. Reilly and Hauser began negotiating to reprise their roles in either a spin-off or Yellowstone Season 6.
Days before the series finale in December, Reilly and Hauser reportedly closed their deals to return for a spin-off.
Yellowstone architect Taylor Sheridan will create the Beth and Rip series, which will share most of the DNA of the flagship show. It will be set in the same present-day time frame as Yellowstone. Other cast members from Yellowstone will be featured in the spin-off. However, no other casting decisions have been announced.
While Reilly and Hauser return for their spin-off, Luke Grimes will reprise his role of Kayce Dutton for his new show Y: Marshals, which heads to CBS in the spring of 2026.
