Is bringing the Russo Brothers back the Marvel’s biggest blunder yet? Zack Snyder speaks on the directing duo making their return for the next Avengers films.
The internet had a mixed reaction when it was revealed that the Russo Brothers would make their grand return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe to helm the next two Avengers films. While some thought they were the only directors capable of such a feat, others were hoping for fresh blood to get a shot at Marvel’s crossover film. It seems Zack Snyder agrees with the latter.
“I think that’s great for them. They’re amazing, and they’ve done really… I think they’ve done great work with those guys,” Snyder explained in a recent chat with CinemaBlend. “I’m sure they’ll do something amazing. They’re talented guys, and I think they’ll do something cool. I think it’s time to shake it up a little bit.”
Zack Snyder has always been the type to take the superhero genre in a new direction, so it’s not a shock that he would share the same opinion for the next Avengers films. Yet, while Marvel is taking the safe route with the directors for the finale of the MCU’s current saga, their risks aren’t exactly paying off, with the studio facing considerable backlash for casting Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom in the upcoming films.
The Russo Brothers Land A Massive Marvel Contract
The Russo Brothers aren’t making their MCU return for cheap either. A recent report revealed Marvel is paying the duo $80 million to helm the next two Avengers films. For reference, that’s $10 million more than it cost Zack Snyder to shoot the remaining scenes needed to complete his Snyder Cut of Justice League over at Warner Bros.
To many, the Russo Brothers are committing highway robbery against Marvel. The duo has struggled to replicate their success outside of the MCU. Much like Zack Snyder’s struggles with Rebel Moon, their Netflix original The Gray Man failed to resonate with audiences, and their series Citadel became one of the most expensive flops in streaming history. Hopefully, the duo is able to find their groove again with their return to the Avengers franchise, especially with that price tag!
