Zombie Rollerz: The Last Ship is a survival game where you face off against hordes of zombies by arming and customizing a massive tank.
You will need to roll over and shoot different zombies in hopes you can last. You are in a big map full of different pockets of zombies. You must manage your ship, upgrade it with fallen gears, and survive for the set time. You could travel around avoiding all of the zombies during this time, but when the clock runs out, you’ll often be faced by a boss. you’re not likely to survive this encounter if you haven’t upgraded your tank.

As you kill off hordes of zombies, you can unlock chests in their specific pockets of the map. These chests give you trinkets, often a choice between two, that you can use to help with your tank’s abilities like upgrading turrets or making you do critical hits more often. Dead zombies also drop gears which you can use to upgrade your attached turrets and bits of your tank.
You will be destroying zombies by either shooting them with your turret or hitting them with your tank. These up-close encounters do put you in a bit of danger, though. The sides, front, and back of your tank have a health, and you will need to get away from enemies to let your character automatically fix up and maintain the ship. This balance of attacking, waiting it out, and upgrading is what the game is all about. The zombies, once they see you, will continue attacking you, so you need to make the best decisions with your movements so you can have some time to fix everything up.

There are lots of upgrades that you can add to your ship, from different wheels to various spiked weapons to turrets. Upgrades can come from unexpected places as well. You can also find people that need rescuing, and these folks have skills and abilities that can help your tank out as well. Each level feels like it has it’s own challenges and secrets to discover before the epic boss fight.
I really like how much depth there is to Zombie Rollerz: The Last Ship. The movement of the game feels clunky and annoying, as it would moving a massive tank full of spikes. Moving around the map and making decisions on what to do next feels interesting, even when I am not fully sure what I am doing beyond trying to stay alive. Everything feels dramatic and challenging. The stats at the end of the levels are massive and intricate as well, always challenging you to play more and achieve more.
Zombie Rollerz: The Last Ship is available now on the Nintendo eShop and Steam.
