This month, things got even more exciting with the addition of a couple of RPG heavy-hitters.
Of course, the downside of being spoiled for choice is that sorting through the library to find the best RPGs can be a hassle. Whether you’re looking for iconic classics or indie standouts, this selection of Xbox Game Pass RPGs will do the work for you, highlighting the very best of what the service has to offer right now.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance

Plenty of major RPG franchises have been streamlined over the years, with series like The Elder Scrolls starting to favor immediate fun over complex design. Kingdom Come: Deliverance is an aggressive rejection of that philosophy, telling a grounded, slow-moving story that makes every choice, coin, and stroke of the sword count.
If you prefer Morrowind to Skyrim, you’ll likely love stepping into the shoes of medieval peasant Henry as he’s swept up into an adventure. Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 might be even better, but it’s not available on the service quite yet. The latest Xbox Game Pass announcements revealed that it will join the line-up on March 3, giving you enough time to rush through the original Kingdom Come: Deliverance in advance.
Stardew Valley

The Xbox Game Pass Essential options for RPGs are a lot more limited, but Stardew Valley is one major standout. While its largely classified as a life simulation game, Stardew Valley features more than enough genre staples to be considered a proper RPG. In the process of developing the perfect farm, you’ll also fight monsters, level up skills, and build relationships with a variety of memorable characters.
Stardew Valley is also a game that keeps on giving, even a decade after its release. Developer ConcernedApe has provided plenty of free updates over the years, with Stardew Valley 1.7 and its host of new features currently on the way.

Picking between style and substance is a common quandary, but Metaphor: ReFantazio delivers both in spades. Like developer Atlus’s Persona and Shin Megami Tensei games, Metaphor: ReFantazio is an RPG with striking designs, dynamic UI, and a fantastic soundtrack. At the same time, it dives into an interesting story that examines heavy topics like prejudice and idealism.
If you’re looking to get your money’s worth out of Xbox Game Pass, Metaphor: ReFantazio also bears the trademark length of Atlas RPGs, and playing through both the main story and side content could easily get you close to 100 hours of game time.
Pillars Of Eternity

Looking for Baldur’s Gate 3 on Xbox Game Pass? You won’t find it, but you will find Pillars of Eternity. While this isometric RPG lacks Baldur’s Gate 3‘s cinematic conversations and dynamic turn-based combat, it makes up for the difference with rich storytelling and fascinating world-building.
If you’d prefer to opt for something more action-focused, Xbox Game Pass is also home to Avowed, a first-person RPG that takes place in the same world as Pillars of Eternity. As far as the writing goes, though, Pillars of Eternity and its sequel Deadfire still come out on top.
Mass Effect

The Mass Effect trilogy remains the gold standard in sci-fi RPGs, and there’s no better place to start than the original game. While Mass Effect 2 refined plenty of mechanics and dove deeper into character-specific stories, the atmosphere and mood of the first remain unmatched.
It’s also the only one available on Xbox Game Pass Premium, as playing the others will require an Ultimate or PC subscription. If you do have a higher tier, you’ll have access to the complete trilogy and Mass Effect Andromeda, although the latter might not be worth the time investment.

Xbox Game Pass is a veritable treasure trove of The Elder Scrolls games, featuring everything from 1998’s spin-off The Elder Scrolls Adventures: Redguard to the recent The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered. If you’ve never played any, however, The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim might be the best starting point. As a rich RPG that’s uniquely accessible, there’s a reason that Skyrim swept the world in 2011.
If you’re looking to dig into even denser games, Morrowind and Oblivion are both fantastic options as well. Oblivion Remastered is only available on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC, but the original Oblivion has a more interesting art style anyway.
Persona 4 Golden

Metaphor: ReFantazio may be the latest Atlus RPG on Xbox Game Pass, but Persona 4 Golden is the most iconic. While opinions about the best Persona game are divided, the fourth installment remains the peak of the series for many, and not without good reason.
An interesting murder mystery, great cast of characters, and small-town vibe all craft a unique atmosphere that’s hard to find elsewhere, and despite its age, the gameplay hasn’t aged a day. Compelling dungeons and great battles keep up the excitement throughout the long journey, making this an Xbox Game Pass RPG that genre acolytes shouldn’t miss.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

After its outstanding performance at The Game Awards 2025, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 could practically be considered the standard-bearer for Xbox Game Pass RPGs. Despite emerging as a new IP from a mid-sized studio, this French RPG took the world by storm, thanks in no small part to its Game Pass availability.
Expedition 33 is a masterful blend of the old and the new, with turn-based combat and a classic RPG overworld meeting influence from games like Sekiro. What really sticks with players, however, is the story, which lands plenty of big emotional beats in a way that might very well leave you sobbing.
Fallout: New Vegas

Several Fallout games are available on Xbox Game Pass, but Fallout: New Vegas might be the best of the bunch. Two years after the release of Fallout 3, New Vegas took its foundation and ran with it, crafting a story that stands among the RPG greats.
New Vegas has long been a favorite of dedicated Fallout acolytes, but with the Amazon series now venturing into related narrative material, it should also be a priority for newcomers. While Fallout 4 might have more modern gameplay features, New Vegas still outdoes it in all the ways that matter most. That being said, if you only have an Essential subscription, Fallout 4 is the way to go.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Fans haven’t stopped talking about The Witcher 3 for over a decade now, and they’ll likely be talking about it for decades to come. The continuing adventurers of Geralt of Rivia reach new heights in the third game, which sets a high-water mark for RPG storytelling and world-building.
To sweeten the pot, the version of The Witcher 3 available on Xbox Game Pass is the Complete Edition, which includes the Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine expansions. Despite being an add-on, Blood and Wine won the RPG category at The Game Awards 2016, highlighting just how great even supplementary content for The Witcher 3 can be. 2026 will likely bring plenty of other exciting RPGs to Xbox Game Pass, but it’ll be hard for the service to top the addition of The Witcher 3.
