Kingdom Come: Deliverance

Stardew Valley is also a game that keeps on giving, even a decade after its release. Developer ConcernedApe has provided plenty of free updates over the years, with Stardew Valley 1.7 and its host of new features currently on the way.

Picking between style and substance is a common quandary, but Metaphor: ReFantazio delivers both in spades. Like developer Atlus’s Persona and Shin Megami Tensei games, Metaphor: ReFantazio is an RPG with striking designs, dynamic UI, and a fantastic soundtrack. At the same time, it dives into an interesting story that examines heavy topics like prejudice and idealism.

If you’re looking to get your money’s worth out of Xbox Game Pass, Metaphor: ReFantazio also bears the trademark length of Atlas RPGs, and playing through both the main story and side content could easily get you close to 100 hours of game time.

Pillars Of Eternity

Looking for Baldur’s Gate 3 on Xbox Game Pass? You won’t find it, but you will find Pillars of Eternity. While this isometric RPG lacks Baldur’s Gate 3‘s cinematic conversations and dynamic turn-based combat, it makes up for the difference with rich storytelling and fascinating world-building.

If you’d prefer to opt for something more action-focused, Xbox Game Pass is also home to Avowed, a first-person RPG that takes place in the same world as Pillars of Eternity. As far as the writing goes, though, Pillars of Eternity and its sequel Deadfire still come out on top.

It’s also the only one available on Xbox Game Pass Premium, as playing the others will require an Ultimate or PC subscription. If you do have a higher tier, you’ll have access to the complete trilogy and Mass Effect Andromeda, although the latter might not be worth the time investment.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

Fallout: New Vegas

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Despite being an add-on, Blood and Wine won the RPG category at The Game Awards 2016, highlighting just how great even supplementary content for The Witcher 3 can be. 2026 will likely bring plenty of other exciting RPGs to Xbox Game Pass, but it’ll be hard for the service to top the addition of The Witcher 3.
