You’d think with the barren theatrical comedy landscape that comedy films just patently didn’t exist anymore.
While Hollywood is currently failing the mid-budget comedy, there is still a wealth of funny pictures to choose from on platforms like Tubi, Netflix, and Prime Video.
What’s more, plenty of them — both newer and older films alike — are too underrated. So, not only are there lots of comedy films, but there’s even more that you likely haven’t heard of!
Watch With Us spanned platforms looking for three of the most underrated comedy films currently streaming. Read on to see the top picks for September 2025.
‘They Came Together’ (2014)
From the minds who brought us Wet Hot American Summer comes a hilarious send-up of romcoms starring Amy Poehler and Paul Rudd. Molly (Poehler) and Joel (Rudd) butt heads when they first meet, but their enemies-to-lovers romance blossoms into a love story for the ages — despite Molly’s status as the owner of an independent candy shop, and Joel a stooge for the corporate candy bigwigs who want Molly’s shop shut down.
Their relationship comes to devastating blows after Joel meets Molly’s family, and they go their separate ways — but can love persevere nonetheless? They Came Together takes an absurdist, hyperbolic approach to its satire that is typical of directors Michael Showalter and David Wain. Poehler and Rudd are as funny as ever, and are joined by equally sidesplitting ensemble cast that includes Christopher Meloni, Max Greenfield, and Bill Hader.

‘The Other Guys’ (2010)
When you say the name “Adam McKay,” your brain might automatically think of Step Brothers or Talladega Nights, or even his more recent political fare like The Big Short. But his Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg buddy cop comedy from 2010 might have completely missed your radar. The film stars the two actors as a couple of goofy pencil-pushers in a police station, desperate to prove themselves as real cops.
The plot follows detectives Allen Gimble (Ferrell) and Terry Holtz (Wahlberg), who get wrapped up in a deadly web when a seemingly minor case towards out to be a narcotics conspiracy. The parody of buddy cop action flicks employs sporadic absurdism attributable to McKay and genuinely impressive action set pieces. Not to mention, Ferrell and Wahlberg have unbelievable comic chemistry, as Wahlberg excels as the arrogant man-child Holtz, and Ferrell counters him as the straitlaced but secretly hardcore Gimble.

‘Don’t Let the Riverbeast Get You!’ (2012)
This low-budget homage to classic B-movie slashers has gained a passionate cult following on social media. A once-revered tutor returns to his peaceful New England hometown, having weathered years of torment over his insistence that an aquatic beast resides in the woods nearby. Nevertheless, Neil Stuart (Matt Farely) bravely imparts his tutoring expertise while warning his fellow citizens of danger nearby, no matter what they choose to say about him.
Dual filmmakers Matt Farley and Charlie Roxburgh transcend the limitations of shoestring cinema and create a unique, unforgettable film experience. Combining romance, horror, comedy, and even a music and dance number, Don’t Let the Riverbeast Get You! is a must-see oddity among the Tubi annals. You won’t be able to stop saying the words “vagabond” and “muckraker”!
