Marvel Studios has just set up a pretty cool way to connect Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, animated releases, and even Disney Parks’ version of the Webslinger with one cool story idea. As seen in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man and its alt-MCU timeline, Peter Parker was working with Norman Osborn and Oscorp rather than having Tony Stark as his mentor like in the main MCU. However, the finale saw a brand-new company being formed after Peter discovered Norman couldn’t fully be trusted.

In Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, Peter Parker becomes the hero he was always meant to be with an origin that branches off from the primary MCU timeline. To that end, there are still some key ways in which this new journey echoes the live-action continuity, as well as a key connection to the version of Spider-Man who exclusively exists in the reality that’s home to California Adventure’s Avengers Campus (another alt-MCU timeline). To that end, I think Marvel Studios just set up a fascinating story element that could soon be featured in every version of Spider-Man (at least the ones overseen by Disney).

After Peter Parker determines that Norman Osborn can’t fully be trusted in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man episode 10, the titular Webslinger isn’t sure if he should continue working for him. However, Nico Minoru suggests that Harry Osborn should create his own company where Peter, his fellow Oscorp interns, and more bright young minds could innovate and collaborate instead. To that end, the finale episode sees Harry officially creating the Worldwide Engineering Brigade aka W.E.B., sending out invites to several different names shown on a whiteboard (many of whom have ties to the original Marvel Comics and/or the MCU).

As impressive as Harry’s new company is, W.E.B has been around in the Spider-Man franchise for a lot longer than Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. The concept of the Worldwide Engineering Brigade was first introduced as part of the story and lore behind Avengers Campus’ Web Slingers ride at Disney Park’s California Adventure. Working out of an old flying car factory once owned by Howard Stark, Tony Stark financed and founded W.E.B in the Avengers Campus timeline, itself being an adjacent timeline to the MCU much like Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.

In many ways, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is superior to any of the live-action movies thanks to its episodic and expansive nature.

W.E.B. was also featured in the animated series Marvel’s Spider-Man as a lab for Peter Parker and his friends that was also financed by Stark. While Harry has several names he wants to recruit for his new company, previous versions of W.E.B. featured the likes of Miles Morales, Gwen Stacy, Anya Corazon, Cassie Lang, Harley Keener, Doreen Green, Lunella Lafayette, Onome of Wakanda, Amadeus Cho, and Bruno Carrelli. As a result, there are plenty of Marvel characters who could debut via W.E.B in future seasons of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.

Having been featured in animated projects and at Avengers Campus, some version of W.E.B debuting in the main MCU would certainly bring things full circle. After all, Tom Holland is featured in the opening videos of the Web Slingers ride at Avengers Campus, albeit as a variant of the Peter Parker he plays in the movies. That said, the main MCU’s Peter is currently facing a very different status quo following the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home with no one remembering who he is, let alone having someone like Tony Stark or Harry Osborn to lend a hand with funding.

Even so, I do think it would be cool if Peter Parker eventually created his very own startup in the MCU, which could be a more grounded way of bringing W.E.B into the main live-action timeline. It could be as simple as Spider-Man developing some sort of app or technology to help pay his bills (or something along those lines). However, perhaps life eventually improves for the MCU’s Spider-Man by the end of his upcoming trilogy, allowing him to launch a full-on company like he did in the original Marvel Comics with Parker Industries (a brief yet exciting chapter brought on by the “Superior Spider-Man” era).

In whatever form it could potentially take, having W.E.B in the main MCU would be lots of fun. It’d certainly be a great way to continue highlighting Spider-Man’s genius, seeing how he’s one of the smartest Marvel heroes with an IQ of 250 (compared to Reed Richards’ 267 and Tony Stark’s 270). Likewise, having an element like W.E.B. featured across the board in Disney’s Spider-Man franchise and its various projects is just good synergy, an entertaining way to bridge the different timelines and realities as a dynamic shared parallel. While it’s admittedly hard to envision W.E.B. happening right now based on where the ending of No Way Home left Peter Parker, my fingers are crossed we’ll get some version of it later on down the line.
