James Gunn has officially revealed who will be bringing one of Superman’s most iconic villains to life in the DC Universe, making the announcement directly to fans on social media.
In a post shared across his feeds, Gunn confirmed that Lars Eidinger has been cast as Brainiac in Man of Tomorrow, the upcoming sequel to Superman. Gunn kept the message simple and direct, writing, “In our worldwide search for Brainiac in Man of Tomorrow, Lars Eidinger rose to the top. Welcome to the DCU, Lars.”

Brainiac is one of Superman’s most enduring adversaries in DC Comics, known for his intelligence, obsession with knowledge, and role as a cosmic-level threat. Gunn’s announcement teases that the sequel will expand the scope of the franchise beyond Earth-based conflicts, though no additional details were revealed alongside the casting.
DC Studios has not yet commented further on how Brainiac will factor into the plot or when production on Man of Tomorrow is expected to begin. In a recent interview, however, Lex Luthor actor Nicholas Hoult revealed that the Superman sequel is set to begin filming in April 2026.
Eidinger is best known for his work in European film, television, and theater. His screen credits include roles in Personal Shopper, Clouds of Sils Maria, White Noise, and the German series Babylon Berlin. He is also a longtime member of the Schaubühne theatre company in Berlin, where he has performed in numerous stage productions.
