Man/Woman/Chainsaw have announced their debut album, Cannonball, out Aug. 7 via Fiction Records. Lead single “Nosedive” is about feeling exposed and longing for relief, juxtaposed against a synth-heavy sound to mirror the feeling of healing and closure. On the song, Man/Woman/Chainsaw found inspiration in LCD Soundsystem and art-punk.
“It’s a song about longing for both comfort and freedom simultaneously in a relationship through the metaphor of being an injured bird needing shelter,” vocalist Emmie-Mae says. “We turned it into a danceable upbeat track, which made the tone shift throughout the song as though you find a way to pick yourself up and fly away.”

Cannonball, which was produced by Seth Evans and Margo Broom, is about the band’s coming-of-age story since forming the group as teenagers. This year, they’ll perform at festivals throughout the spring and summer across the U.K. and Europe.
