Lala Kent looked back on her falling out with Katie Maloney on her shared podcast with Ambyr Childers last week.
As she admitted to making her former Vanderpump Rules co-star feel “betrayed,” seemingly referencing her publicization of comments Katie, 40, made about Ariana Madix, 40, and their sandwich shop partnership, revealed that she sent her a heartfelt text message, and explained what upset her most about their feud, Lala, 35, said she had to do a lot of work with her sponsor in regard to the demise of their friendship.
“That was the hardest [friendship loss],” Lala told Ambyr, 37, on the April 30 episode of Unlikely Affair. “I went through a lot of anger, a lot of resentment, [and] a lot of sadness.”
According to Lala, her relationship with Katie took a turn for the worse once things intensified on Pump Rules and she leaked a private conversation between them.
“At the reunion, the final season, I brought something up that Katie believed was between just the two of us … [And] I made her feel like she had been betrayed,” she explained.
After Lala shared that she felt her perspective was different, she revealed that she found herself in a vicious cycle of looping the thought of, “That’s not how it f*cking happened. That’s not how it f*cking happened,” which she took to her sponsor.
“I was like, ‘Here’s the deal: I’ve been looping on this for over a year now. I cannot shake it. I feel like I’m wearing a scarlet letter. I want people to know the truth, but I also want to just hide in a hole and people forget about me, and I want everyone to shut the f*ck up, and I just want to be over it,’ and she broke it down so simply, [saying], ‘If we don’t keep our side of the street clean, we are on the brink of a relapse. Lala, that is what will happen to you. If you continue circling the drain with this, it doesn’t matter what your perspective is. We have to own our part, how we made someone feel, and we have to release it.’”
After their chat, Lala began working on a text message to Katie, which she ultimately sent.
“One day, I got to that place where I was like, ‘I am completely content with the way things are right now, and if I don’t hear back, it doesn’t matter because I still mean what I’m saying in this message,’ and I sent it off. I did not hear back, and that is totally fine. I am totally content with that,” she reasoned. “But that was a brutal friendship breakup because during the hardest time of my life, the breakup, and then going into film season 10 … Katie was my best friend.”
“That friendship revived me. I felt safe, seen, and it breaks my heart to know that in a matter of moments, I didn’t make her feel the same,” Lala continued, breaking down into tears.
While Ambyr suggested that Katie may need “time,” Lala didn’t have much hope for a reconciliation.
“I don’t think it’s ever gonna come back, and it’s fine. I’m content with that. The reason I’m crying is because life is just so, there are times where we’re just surviving, and you might act in a way that’s out of character, but it can shift things. It can shift friendships … and in one moment, your action can change everything.”
“So, although I miss that friendship deeply and I know that there’s no repairing it, we’ve both moved on, when I look back on it, that whole situation, I could’ve moved a lot differently, but I didn’t, and I have to be okay with that,” she concluded.
