Prime Video‘s new detective series is already a streaming sensation, and for those who have not yet watched it, the dark show emerges as the perfect weekend binge. 2026 has been a good year for detective shows. For instance, some of Netflix’s best 2026 shows come from that genre. I would include two foreign shows among those on that coveted list.
Both The Chestnut Man: Hide and Seek and Jo Nesbø’s Detective Hole introduced complex detectives, twisted mysteries, game-changing reveals, immersive atmospheres, and bloody deaths. That is all one can really ask for from the genre. Among Prime Video’s best shows this year is Cross season 2, which has that same crime-focused, dark feel. However, the streamer’s best detective series so far this year is lighter.
That would undoubtedly be Young Sherlock, the latest adaptation of the best detective of all time: Sherlock Holmes. The fast-paced series explored a younger version of Holmes, still friends with James Moriarty, who will one day become his biggest rival, solving his first set of mysteries. Now, as a streaming era ends for Guy Ritchie’s Young Sherlock, Prime Video has the perfect new binge-worthy detective series.
Spider-Noir can easily fill in the spot left by Young Shelock season 1. The new live-action Spider-Man series stars Nicolas Cage as Ben Reilly, a veteran superhero who hangs his suit to serve as a private investigator in a dark 1930s New York City, dealing with its criminal underworld. No Spider-Man knowledge is necessary for this standalone, must-binge new series.
Spider-Noir Is A Unique Live-Action Spider-Man Release
Spider-Noir exists in its own universe, so you don’t need to know anything about the many Spider-Man movies that have been released in theaters with versions of Peter Parker played by Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and Tom Holland. Additionally, despite having voiced Spider-Man Noir in 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Cage plays a completely different take on the character in the new Prime Video series, with his superhero name being The Spider and the show’s focus being more on the detective story at play than superhero events, though there is still plenty of action for those interested in that side.
Spider-Noir Review: Prime Video’s New Standalone Spider-Man Series Is Nicolas Cage At His Best
Nicolas Cage’s new Spider-Man series carves a corner of live-action Marvel stories for it, as Spider-Noir creatively reimagines villains and New York.
Spider-Noir is available in two different formats: “Authentic Black & White” and “True-Hue Full Color.” both have their strengths, but in black and white, the immersion in the noir crime story works at the highest level, truly making Spider-Noir different from all the previous live-action Spider-Man adaptations released over the years. Cage brings his usual charisma and general weirdness to the role, which makes Ben a character you can never get too much off. The detective story is well-planned, the characters are mostly multi-faceted, the action is visually stunning, and the Spider-Man of it all only enhances this gritty release.
Why Prime Video’s Spider-Noir Is Perfect For A Weekend Binge
Prime Video’s Spider-Noir instantly became a global streaming hit, so if you have yet to watch it, you are missing out. All eight episodes of Spider-Noir season 1 dropped on Prime Video on May 27. At the time of writing, Spider-Noir has become Prime Video’s most-watched TV show worldwide, dethroning the viral romance novel adaptation Off Campus, according to FlixPatrol. The new Spider-Man series is universally beloved. On Rotten Tomatoes, Spider-Noir stands at a near-perfect 92% critics’ score, with a matching 92% audience score, which is a rare sight.
With its unique world, Spider-Noir is an easy series to get lost in during a weekend binge. The new Spider-Man series has a total runtime of 366 minutes, which translates into roughly six hours of content. For the more dedicated Spider-Man fans or detective thriller enthusiasts, Spider-Noir works as a gripping one-night weekend binge, but you can also watch four episodes on each day. There are some core mysteries that viewers will likely want to get to the bottom of quickly, which also helps Spider-Noir‘s status as the perfect weekend binge.
