Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is weighing in on the shocking aftermath of the Lindsay Clancy murder mistrial — and he’s offering one very unexpected solution for the lone juror who refused to join the other 11 in reaching a verdict.
So, back on Friday, DeSantis blasted NBC10 Boston after that news outlet reported that the holdout juror who chose not to find Clancy not guilty by reason of insanity has faced domestic violence allegations and currently has a restraining order against him.

Evidently mad about that, the governor accused the media of trying to smear the juror and offered him a rather extraordinary escape route:
“A man objected to allowing a woman to kill her three young kids and get away with it, so NBC is trying to smear that juror, whose identity should be protected. Another low for legacy media. If the juror is being harassed, Florida will provide asylum — I’m sure he’d be welcomed and appreciated.”
Whoa!
That comment comes days after Judge William Sullivan declared a mistrial in Clancy’s case, as we’ve been reporting. The jury reportedly told the court three times that deliberations were deadlocked at 11-1 after more than six days of discussion.
NBC10 reported that the lone holdout juror was charged in 2021 after his teenage nephew allegedly told police he witnessed the man assault his then-wife. The charge was ultimately dismissed. The outlet also reported that the same nephew obtained a restraining order against the man in 2025, alleging that he was pushed to the ground and punched repeatedly. Jeez…
The reporting raises some serious questions because Massachusetts juror questionnaires ask prospective jurors about arrests, criminal charges and court orders.
As for Clancy, as we’ve been covering, she was accused of strangling her three children, Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months, at their Massachusetts home in January 2023. She pleaded not guilty by reason of lack of criminal responsibility, with her defense arguing that postpartum psychosis and medication contributed to the tragedy.
Prosecutors have not yet said whether they will retry the case, but they’ve got a hearing about it scheduled for later this month.
