Far Cry is getting close.
The upcoming Far Cry television show is an adaptation of the first-person shooter video game series of the same name, which so far features six main installments that focus on different characters on wilderness adventures in far-flung regions. The FX show, which is set to be an anthology, is being created by Noah Hawley (Fargo, Alien: Earth) and Rob McElhenney (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Welcome to Wrexham) and is set to star McElhenney opposite Lizzy Caplan (Masters of Sex, Mean Girls) and Steve Buscemi (Boardwalk Empire, Reservoir Dogs).
Although Steve Buscemi did not appear in Hawley’s Fargo series, he did star in the original 1996 movie upon which it was based.
Now, the Far Cry series has gotten a production update from an unexpected place. On her official Instagram account, cinematographer Polly Morgan (Back to Black, Where the Crawdads Sing, Noah Hawley’s Legion) shared an image of the slate for Far Cry season 1 with the caption “This is fun 🙂.” The slate reveals that they were shooting take one of scene 102 on September 14, 2026, indicating that the show is already in production, less than a year after it was originally announced to be in development in November 2025.
In addition to the slate revealing that Noah Hawley is the director and Polly Morgan is the director of photography, the tags on the post reveal some of the team that she is working with on the adaptation of the Far Cry games. The three people she tagged are gaffer David Sinfield (2026’s Wuthering Heights, 2025’s Frankenstein, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power), second unit director George Cottle (Star Wars: Starfighter, Deadpool & Wolverine, Spider-Man: No Way Home), and camera operator Danny Bishop (Star Wars: Starfighter, John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, Tár).
While the majority of the team is UK-based, the location tag on the post indicates that the production is currently shooting in Spain.

This image would seem to indicate that September 14 was relatively early in the production of Far Cry, if not the first day of shooting. Therefore, it will most likely take quite a bit of time for the series to wrap production and then go through post-production before it is ready to air on FX. However, comparing this update to the production timelines of other recent series adapting live-action video game series with similar levels of visual effects does offer some insight into the potential release timeline.
For instance, Fallout season 1 shot for eight months and spent 13 months in post-production, The Last of Us season 1 spent 11 months shooting and seven months in post-production, Twisted Metal season 1 shot for four months and spent 10 months in post-production, and Netflix’s Resident Evil took five months to shoot and spent a year in post-production.
If the Far Cry series has an average timeline based on the timelines of those four video game series, it might take roughly seven months to shoot and spend about 11 months in post-production. This could mean that, based on this latest update, the series might premiere on FX sometime around March 2028.
