Scottish actor Robbie Coltrane, who performed a crime-solving psychologist on TV collection Cracker and the beloved half-giant Hagrid within the Harry Potter films, has died.
He was 72.
Coltrane’s agent Belinda Wright mentioned he died Friday at a hospital in Scotland. She didn’t present a trigger.
Coltrane got here to fame as a hard-bitten detective within the Nineteen Nineties collection Cracker, for which he gained finest actor on the British Academy Tv Awards three years operating.

Wright mentioned that “in addition to being a beautiful actor, he was forensically clever, brilliantly witty and after 40 years of being proud to be known as his agent, I shall miss him.”
Celebrities took to social media to share their condolences. Potter star Daniel Radcliffe launched a press release about Coltrane’s passing:
“Robbie was one of many funniest folks I’ve met and used to maintain us laughing continually as youngsters on the set,” it reads. “I’ve particularly fond reminiscences of him holding our spirits up on ‘Prisoner of Azkaban,’ after we had been all hiding from the torrential rain for hours in Hagrid’s hut and he was telling tales and cracking jokes to maintain morale up. I really feel extremely fortunate that I bought to satisfy and work with him and really unhappy that he’s handed. He was an unbelievable actor and a beautiful man.”
Wright mentioned Coltrane is survived by his sister Annie Rae, his ex-wife Rhona Gemmell and his kids Spencer and Alice.
