Ahh the Taylor Swift effect. For years, fans have championed the idea of Taylor Swift portraying Dazzler in the MCU—a wish that only seems to gain momentum as Swift’s star continues to rise. Still, Marvel appears to have taken notice, doubling down on Dazzler in recent years as a rockstar character. From last year’s collectible DAZZLER solo series to this year’s much-anticipated CONCERT OF CHAMPIONS coming out this April, there hasn’t been this much hype in concert comics and musical performances since Josie and The Pussycats.
Written by writer Jason Loo and drawn by artist Rafael Loureiro, this one take will expand the musical heroics, bringing on some other popular women Marvel musical stars and superheroes such as Luna Snow (A K-Pop idol), Lila Cheney (Legendary New Mutant rockstar from Claremont’s run) and of course, Spider-Gwen (Drummer of the Mary Janes). To be fair, the artwork is pretty neat in these, and I do think it’s a good attempt to get younger audiences to read comics – especially young kids who love singing and dancing.
“I’m honored to work on Marvel’s first annual music festival, and with a STACKED line-up,” Loo shared. “Luna Snow was already on my playlist while I was writing the last Dazzler series, so getting to have her share the stage with Dazzler and Lila Cheney is a total dream. Also, get ready for DEEP VOID, 616’s new black metal band, made-up of some familiar faces. That one song they have RIPS!”
