Spider-Man recently paid homage to One Piece‘s Monkey D. Luffy on the cover of Amazing Spider-Man #1000. Published on September 30, the comic is a milestone issue in the Amazing Spider-Man series. The legacy issue also features major stories related to the superhero.

A variant cover of Amazing Spider-Man #1000 is going viral on social media after fans spotted the Marvel superhero striking a pose resembling Monkey D. Luffy’s Gear 2 stance.
The user @pewpiece shared the cover on X (formerly known as Twitter). On the cover of the issue, fans can see the unmasked webslinger crouching in the same way One Piece’s protagonist does when entering his Gear 2 state. Mico Suayan designed the cover, and it was released as an NYCC exclusive variant.
Many comics and anime fans took to the internet to share their joy over the two pop culture icons colliding. One fan wrote, “As a Spider-Man and One Piece fan this makes me so f**king happy!!!!” Another fan commented, “King of Marvel comics paying homage to the king of comic[s] in general.”
Another X user suggested which superhero should do a One Piece reference next and wrote, “Crossover like this is so fun, I can’t wait to see Iron Man’s One Piece reference next.” A third fan shared other recreations of Luffy’s pose and stated, “Pose is so goated that you can’t help but recreate it.”
Amazing Spider-Man #1000 is written by Joe Kelly, Frank Miller, Dan Slott, Noah Hawley, and features stories from other legendary creators. John Romita Jr., Pepe Larraz, Marcos Martin, Humberto Ramos, and many others illustrated the latest issue.
