Archie Comics announces an all-new special, Archie Halloween Spectacular. The comic follows a new storyline including Mother Striga, a new big bad in Sabrina’s World! The character debuted in Sabrina Annual Spectacular and now we follow a storyline that makes this Halloween Spectacular part two of that story even though it works as a standalone.
It’s a big deal since Archie Comics doesn’t normally do crossovers but this was too big not to, especially because Sabrina’s current big bad, Amber Nightstone sold out her debut issue years ago, and Mother Striga is her boss!
Archie Comics Editor-in-Chief Mike Pellerito had this to say:
We had a lot of success with the intro of Amber Nightstone and the Wicked Trinity – Amber’s first appearance was an instant sell-out. Sabrina hasn’t really had an archvillain like this before, so for this Halloween, we wanted to up the stakes and bring in the mother of all witches, the one that gave all other witches a bad name, Mother Striga. I started sharing the idea with Steve Butler and Ian Flynn separately, and Ian created the perfect story. Steven had the character’s look nailed down before the script came in. Those two are amazing, and it shows in this story.
Great characters always have a version of themselves to play off of, either as an enemy, a rival, or a friend. Sherlock Holmes and Moriarty, Archie and Reggie, even Betty and Veronica. Sabrina has a great cast of characters, and finding a new character strong enough to add to the mix is the best.
