It’s an exciting time to be a fan of everyone’s favorite British ass-kicker, Jason Statham. Set to return as Adam Clay in The Beekeeper 2, which is directed by Timo Tjahjanto instead of David Ayer, Statham is also about to portray himself in David Leitch‘s Jason Statham Stole My Bike, one of his most intriguing projects in years. Statham is also set to reunite with director Guy Ritchie, who gave the actor his 1998 debut in Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, for their sixth partnership on Viva La Madness.
But before all of these upcoming projects, Statham’s latest movie made its theatrical splash last week. The action thriller Mutiny, directed by Jean-François Richet and promoted as a John Wick-esque thriller, has fallen into obscurity almost as soon as its box office run began. After one week, it has only returned $13 million of its $40 million budget and has already faded from the domestic box office top ten. Alongside Statham, the film also features Annabelle Wallis (Malignant), Jason Wong (The Covenant), Roland Møller (Land of Mine), Arnas Fedaravicius (The Last Kingdom), and Adrian Lester (Primary Colors), and is likely to perform better upon streaming arrival.
In one week, despite its many failings, Mutiny has at least earned the same total haul as another Statham financial flop: Redemption (also known as Hummingbird). Starring alongside MCU veteran Benedict Wong, Statham’s Redemption follows a damaged former special forces soldier, Joey, as he returns from combat to face life on the streets of London. Peaky Blinders creator and writer of the latest James Bond, Steven Knight, wrote and directed Redemption, and even considered Cillian Murphy for the role originally. 13 years later, you will be able to stream Redemption for free on Plex starting September 1, 2026.

How Did Critics React to ‘Redemption’?
So the film flopped at the box office, earning only $13 million against a reported budget of $23 million, but could Redemption at least find its namesake among critics? Sadly, this Statham/Knight collaboration returned mixed reviews from critics, earning a middling 50% average score on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, with one reviewer writing, “This is a film that wants to be more than a mindless action flick and it tries, desperately, but just can’t deliver.”
