I have a little fun two-part question: Who would be the top five artists on Harriet Tubman’s Spotify Wrap?
Of course, I don’t know for sure. This is all speculation. This is just my take on what Harriet would be like. I don’t even know what she would like. Maybe she would like R&B, maybe she’d be into rock and roll. Who knows! But I feel like she would really love Doechii. I feel like she’d really love Kendrick Lamar for sure. I feel like she would be into Lauryn Hill. I think she would like Missy Elliott, and I actually think she would like Chappell Roan too. I think she’d think “Pink Pony Club” was a bop.
And what is Harriet doing first, being an extra special guest judge on RuPaul’s Drag Race or being a contestant on The Traitors?
[Laughs] Imagine Harriet Tubman as a contestant on The Traitors! She’d probably have a stone-cold poker face. She probably could definitely get away with that, but I think she’s above being a contestant. I can see her maybe, maybe as an extra special guest judge on Drag Race… but maybe, she’s a very busy woman.
Alright, I have to ask, if the book was made into a movie, who would you want to play who?
Okay, so in my mind, I would like for someone like Ving Rhames to play Buck. I would love for LaKeith Stanfield to play Moses, and I would love Kerry Washington to play Odessa. I would be playing Darnell, obviously. I think Keke Palmer would make a good Suzanne. And I think I would love for Peter Dinklage to play DJ Quakes. And I would love, love, and I’m gonna say love one more time, for Doechii to play a Harriet Tubman.
That would be a good Harriet Tubman! Although I don’t know, maybe because she played her on Snatch Game, I kept thinking of Simone.
No. So I love Simone. She would not be playing Harriet Tubman in my movie. Simone’s doing well for herself. But this is not the role she’s looking for [laughs].
You’ve accomplished a lot in your career! Is there something you haven’t done that you really want to do?
I have a lot of goals. I want to get this play up on Broadway. When I moved to New York City, I really wanted to be on Broadway, but unfortunately, no one told me that to be on Broadway, you should really be able to sing and dance. And that’s a really big part, a really big part of being on Broadway in a musical. So I wrote a musical that I could fit into. Where I don’t have to sing and dance! But I really would love to be able to get this show up on Broadway. That would really mean a lot to me.
And lastly, I wanted to ask you a question that you ask a lot of people: Who is going to win All Stars?
I knew you were gonna say that because I asked everyone that question: Who’s gonna win this season of All Stars? I feel like right now, because I haven’t seen the third bracket, I think just knowing what I know about Ginger Minj and how talented she is, she stands a very strong chance. So shocked by Irene! My. God. I think that Mistress could scam her way to the finale [laughs]. I don’t think she’ll win, but she will scam her way to the finale for sure! But I think for me, it’s between Acid Betty and Ginger Minj.
Okay, but my second part to that question is: Who do you think actually deserves to win All Stars?
Acid Betty is an insanely talented drag queen. I don’t think people know how remarkable and how extensive her talents truly are. She’s a good singer, she’s a good dancer, she’s a good costume designer, she’s funny enough, she’s not hilarious, but she’s funny enough. She’s insane, and she’s an icon in New York City.
So that’s your pick to win if it were called Bob the Drag Queen’s All Stars?
If it were Bob the Drag Queen’s All Stars, yeah, that would be my pick.
