The Punisher has a grudge in the MCU! A Spider-Man: Brand New Day rumor gives fans more insight on the character’s role in the upcoming film.
One of the earliest details fans discovered about Spider-Man: Brand New Day was the reveal that the Punisher would play a major role in the film. However, despite how prominent Jon Bernthal’s anti-hero has been in fan discussions about the project, the rumor mill has been basically silent about how his character will actually play into the film.
Some insight on this issue has been provided by scooper DanielRPK. The rumor reveals that the Punisher will actually team up with the titular hero for a decent part of Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Reportedly, the two will take on mind controlled agents of the Department of Damage Control, who have been a part of the series since as far back as Spider-Man: Homecoming.
The Punisher’s Role In Spider-Man: Brand New Day
Of course, this rumor sparks a new question: who is mind controlling the Department of Damage Control? Much like the Punisher, not much has been revealed about who the TRUE villain of Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be. Out of the confirmed characters, the only one who could maybe influence the minds of others is the venom produced by Mac Gargan, aka the Scorpion.
However, when looking over the wide swathe of villains both the Punisher and Spider-Man have faced, a few key candidates stand out as being potential villains in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Perhaps the most prominent is Mister Negative, who can corrupt people using the Darkforce’s Negative Energy.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day swings into theaters July 31st, 2026. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding Spider-Man’s Marvel Cinematic Universe future!
