Ahead of a packed tour schedule, Atreyu frontman Brandon Saller joined the latest episode of AltPress: In Session.
Having formed in 1998, Atreyu aren’t the same band that practiced in an Orange County garage. They’ve evolved, growing alongside their fans as their lineup, sound, and songwriting shifted into new forms, whether proving difficult or rewarding. In the present day, that’s given them the ability to move at a fast clip, including pumping out a trio of EPs that became 2023’s The Beautiful Dark of Life and its follow-up The End Is Not the End.

Sitting down with Editor-in-Chief Anna Zanes, Saller opened up about their career and recent album, written between Tokyo and San Juan Island in northern Washington State. Across its 13 tracks, Saller’s huge vocal range takes the spotlight, reaching toward the heavens. “We call it ‘the church moment.’ Take it straight to church…” he jokes. “We like to be extreme with things. Like the song ‘Ego Death,’ where it’s just an absolute chaotic mess and then takes you to a Madonna ‘Like a Prayer’ moment out of nowhere.”
He also reflected on the importance of family, drawing inspiration from their early sound, and reading the comments (and replying from his personal). Next up, Atreyu play Diamond Ballroom in Oklahoma Hills and will appear at various festivals throughout the year, including Louder Than Life, Sonic Temple, Welcome to Rockville, and Aftershock.
