Emma Heming Willis has pushed back on “judgement” she’s received after revealing husband Bruce Willis is now living in a separate home to his family.
On ABC’s Diane Sawyer Special on Tuesday, Heming Willis said the actor, who has frontotemporal dementia, had moved out of the family home and into a nearby property designed specifically for his needs with access to round-the-clock care.
“It was one of the hardest decisions that I’ve had to make so far,” she said, explaining the aim was to creator a safer environment for Willis, 70.

Heming Willis has now shared an Instagram video revealing the criticism she’s faced from the public after the interview – something she had, unfortunately, anticipated.
“The opinions are so loud and they’re so noisy. But if they don’t have the experience of this, they don’t get a say,” she said.
Heming said she knew when the episode aired there would be discourse between “two camps” of viewers: “People with an opinion versus people with an actual experience.”
“It’s been a perfect example to see, in the comments section … people with an opinion and how quick they are to judge the caregiver,” she continued.

“That is what caregivers are up against. Judgement from others and criticism from others.”
Heming Willis elaborated in her caption.
“Too often, caregivers are judged quickly and unfairly by those who haven’t lived this journey or stood on the front lines of it,” she wrote.
“Sharing openly may invite opinions, but more importantly, it creates connection and validation for those actually navigating the realities of caregiving every day.”

Willis’ daughter Tallulah, whom he shares with ex Demi Moore, praised Heming Willis’ message in the comments section.
“I love you so much. We love you so much. Thank you for all you do for us and our family,” she wrote.
Heming Willis said the decision to move the Die Hard star into a separate home had been made “some time ago”, adding that she believes he would support it.
“I knew, first and foremost, Bruce would want that for our daughters [Mabel, 13, and Evelyn, 11],” she told Sawyer.

“He would want them to be in a home that was more tailored to their needs, not his needs.”
Heming Willis said she, Mabel and Evelyn visit Willis at home frequently, joining him for meals.
“We’re there a lot. It’s our second home, so the girls have their things there.”
Willis was diagnosed with aphasia in 2022, and retired from his acting career. This was followed a frontotemporal dementia diagnosis in 2023.
