After a slap that was heard and seen around the world (sorry ’bout it Chris Rock) Will Smith took a pause and step back from the spotlight. Now, he has re-emerged with a new project.
One of Cannes Film Festival’s biggest-budget projects, is the Will Smith backed action-crime thriller Sugar Bandits. Word on the street is the project has sealed multi-million dollar deals across the world for AGC ahead of a planned September start date.
Competition has been tough over Sugar Bandits, with many companies vying to buy Oscar winner Will Smith’s new project. In an eight-figure pact, the biggest commitment came from Amazon Prime Video which has picked up the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and an addition of smaller territories. Filming on the movie, which has a budget in the $80M range will take place on location in Montreal and Boston.
Sugar Bandits is based on the screenplay and novel Devils In Exile by Chuck Hogan (The Town). Will Smith and Jon Mone will produce through Westbrook Studios with Ryan Shimazaki overseeing; Stuart Ford will produce for AGC Studios; and Richard Abate (13 Hours) will produce for 3 Arts Entertainment. Sollima’s producing partners Gina Gardini will executive-produce and Ludovico Purgatori will co-produce.
