Radio host Michael ‘Wippa’ Wipfli has revealed he was the victim of a scam overnight.
The star, who co-hosts Fitzy & Wippa with Kate Ritchie on Nova, revealed during this morning’s show he was targeted by scammers who even managed to remotely switch on the camera on his computer.
Wippa said he had recently been worried about his parents getting scammed, never imagining he would wind up becoming a victim, before detailing what happened.

“Scammers, man, they’re out there. You gotta be so careful,” he began.
“I always worry about Mum and Dad as they get a little bit older. I just look at the amount of emails I get.
“I got scammed last night actually. It put me in a bad mood.
“I lost some money last night.”

Wippa explained that he was “trying to send a transaction on a blockchain” when “somewhere along the link… something intercepted what I was doing”.
He said “the next thing you know, the money hadn’t arrived”.

He said while he thought it was “an interception,” it was also possible he downloaded some “dodgy software”.
“Maybe I downloaded the wrong software and therefore I was caught out at that stage. I don’t know [but] I was scammed.
“I’m absolutely furious,” he said, before refusing to divulge how much money he lost in the scam.
He then shared the most terrifying part of his ordeal.
“Here’s the other thing Fitz, when it happened, all of a sudden, my camera came on my computer,” he said.

“So I saw a green light, my camera came on, and I went, ‘Oh My God, it’s taking a photo or getting some video’… because there are so many other things that can be verified through face recognition…” he said adding he “put my hand over the camera”.
“Money gone, I don’t know what to do now guys.”
Wippa said he spent the rest of his night on Reddit trying to find out what to do and downloading anti-virus software, after malware was detected on his computer.
Wippa is married to wife Lisa, whom he wed in 2013. They share three children.
