The tragic update also came months after the star’s shock split with Kurt Iswarienko, her husband of 11 years.
“Divorce is the last thing Shannen wanted,” Leslie Sloan, who is Doherty’s representative, told People at the time.
“Unfortunately, she felt she was left with no other option.”
Sloan also claimed to the publication that Iswarienko’s agent was “intimately involved” with the former couple’s split, though in what capacity has not been specified.
While battling her ill health, Doherty continued working as an actress.
Her last film role was in Hot Seat in 2022.
Doherty died aged 53 on July 13, 2024.
“It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of actress Shannen Doherty. On Saturday, July 13, she lost her battle with cancer after many years of fighting the disease,” Doherty’s publicist Leslie Sloane said in a statement.
“The devoted daughter, sister, aunt and friend was surrounded by her loved ones as well as her dog, Bowie. The family asks for their privacy at this time so they can grieve in peace.”
