Over a year after Ruby (Harriet Herbig-Matten) and James’s (Damian Hardung) passionate first meeting, the doors to Maxton Hall are finally reopening. Prime Video announced that Season 2 of its most-watched international original series will return on November 7, complete with more dramatic twists that will create even more troubled waters for the couple. Along with the premiere date for the German-language young adult romance came an intense first teaser, where emotions run high as their relationship is threatened by more forces from within and beyond the walls of the private school.
When viewers last saw Ruby and James, things were looking up for their relationship. Despite James’s father’s (Fedja Van Huêt) disapproval, the pair reconciled during a magical night at Oxford and seemed bound for a bright romantic future together. Ruby’s dreams of attending the prestigious university also appeared well within reach. However, the season ended with James and his sister Lydia (Sonja Weißer) learning that their mother had died of a heart attack and the Beaufort patriarch had kept the news from both of them. The tragedy sowed some uncertainty about how the grief and the unfettered influence of James’s father would affect things between the couple, and Hardung even teased that the show would be taking a darker turn. The Season 2 synopsis and the teaser further confirm that the couple’s situation has changed.
Based on the second book in Mona Kasten’s Save You trilogy, Maxton Hall — The World Between Us Season 2 will pick up with James still reeling from his mother’s death and completely betraying Ruby’s trust. The first footage shows the couple’s return to class before cutting to James partying and getting far too close with another woman, all while his girlfriend watches. Although she never had stronger feelings for someone, the hurt brings her down from cloud nine in an instant, making her wish she could start over at Maxton Hall without anybody remembering who she is. With Oxford looming, she needs to keep focused on her studies, though that’s easier said than done with James doing everything he can to win her back. She also feels the urge to support him as he bears the weight of his father’s expectations, struggling between the love and hate he inspires within her.
‘Maxton Hall’ Season 2 Brings the Same Cast and Crew Back to Class
Although the emotional stakes are ramping up, Maxton Hall‘s cast and crew will be remaining mostly the same for Season 2. The leading duo of Herbig-Matten and Hardung, as well as van Huêt and Weißer as James’s father and sister, will reunite with Ben Felipe as Cyril, Runa Greiner as Ember, Justus Riesner as Alistair, Andrea Guo as Lin, Frederic Balonier as Kieran, and Eli Riccardi as Elaine, among others. Behind the camera once again is Martin Schreier, with Ceylan Yildirim back as the series’s head scribe, with fellow screenwriters Juliana Lima Dehne and Marlene Melchior. Yildirim also serves as a producer alongside Markus Brunnemann and UFA Fiction’s Valentin Debleris.
