Collectors Universe adds another big-time acquisition in grading and marketplace services, this time the authentication company Beckett. Collectors announced this Monday that, despite the acquisition, Beckett will continue to “operate with its own operations, customer experience, and standards around grading, marketplace, magazines, and price guide,” according to a press release. Orders at PSA and Beckett will continue to be processed normally. There will be no change in pricing as a part of the acquisition.
“I am pleased to share that the iconic Beckett is joining the Collectors family and will continue to operate as its own independent brand within our portfolio,” said Nat Turner, CEO of Collectors. “The first card I ever submitted for grading was to Beckett, and I consider Collectors custodians of this important icon in the hobby. We believe that strong, well-supported brands help grow access to the hobby.”
This marks another addition to the Collector’s portfolio: SGC, an authentication and grading company in 2024; video game grader WATA last September; and now PSA card-grading competitor Beckett. According to GemRate data, Beckett consistently ranks fourth in monthly submission totals, far behind PSA, SGC, and CGC.

Beckett has an online marketplace and will continue to publish its price guides and magazines and plans to continue for now. The Beckett black label is still sought after in the hobby. Still, the future of Beckett and SGC is foggy amid consolidation in the card grading space, as Collectors Universe now owns four major card graders.
