Ariana DeBose was not laughing at one ‘joke’ made at the 2024 Critics Choice Awards.
The Oscar-winning actress, 32, who is also a Broadway singer, looked less than impressed after presenters Bella Ramsey and Anthony Ramos joked about her singing ability.
While presenting the award for Best Song, for which DeBose’s film Wish was nominated, Ramsay made a quip about “actors who also think they are singers”.

After listing nominees Jack Black and Ryan Gosling, The Last of Us star included DeBose’s name in the group of actor nominees who seemingly lack musical talent.
The camera caught DeBose’s puzzled expression as the Tony Award nominee failed to see the humour in the joke, not laughing at the punchline.
The Hamilton and West Side Story star took to social media after the awards ceremony to comment on her viral reaction.
“No I didn’t find it funny. Lol,” she wrote plainly to her Instagram story.

Fans took to social media to weigh in on the ‘joke’ made at the star singer’s expense.
“Ariana didn’t do what she did on West Side Story to be grouped together with Jack Black and Ryan Gosling on a joke like this,” one person wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“She’s a professional singer, including her was very disrespectful,” another chimed in.
“The disrespect to Academy Award winner, Tony nominee, Broadway star, Ariana DeBose is WILD. The look on her face really said it all,” a third said.

“She was literally on Broadway. I wouldn’t find it funny either,” someone added.

Others were quick to jump to presenter Bella Ramsay’s defense by reminding those upset at the quip that they “didn’t write the joke.”

“This joke wasn’t written by bella, don’t blame her but ariana has every right to be upset,” one person wrote on X.
While the joke did not land well, DeBose didn’t let it completely overshadow her night.
The Wish star took to Instagram to show support for fellow actress and Critics Choice Award winner Emma Stone.
DeBose shared a behind the scenes mirror selfie of her and Stone with a heartwarming message of congratulations for the Poor Things star who took home the Critics Choice Movie Award for Best Actress.
“Sister. Comrade. Will explain in the memoir I write in 50 years,” she sweetly wrote.
“Congratulations #EmmaStone on your @criticschoice Award!”
