Interviews are just part of the job description when you become an A-list actor.
While some are media trained to a tee, occasionally a star comes along who keeps us on our toes, just wondering what unhinged thing they’ll say or do next.
Over the years, one actress has built a reputation for this… we present Dakota Johnson.

From calling out Ellen DeGeneres on her talk show to flat-out lying about her favourite fruit, the Fifty Shades of Grey star has given us many chaotic and quirky moments.
“I end up in situations and they happen to me. I’m the victim,” she joked to Variety when asked about being the “master” of a good press tour.
“I feel so lucky to be able to do press tours and travel and go to all these amazing places and meet amazing people. I’m just having a nice time.”
So, without further ado, here are some of the standouts purely for your entertainment.
That time she lied about loving limes

Back in 2020, Dakota Johnson took fans on a tour through her home in a video for Architectural Digest.
While in her kitchen, the actress pointed out a bowl of limes arranged on the counter.
“I love limes. I love them. They’re great. I like them so much, and I like to present them like this in my house,” Johnson said.
But her love of limes was in fact a straight-up lie.
During a later appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Johnson made a shocking confession: she’s actually allergic to the fruit.
“I’m mildly allergic to them… Limes make my tongue itch,” she told Fallon over video.
“I actually didn’t even know they were in there. I was giving the tour and went into the kitchen and it was set dressing.
“It was hard to just ignore them, so I just lied. I went the full opposite direction.”
‘That’s not the truth, Ellen’
Who can forget when Johnson sent shockwaves through screens around the world with a single sentence on The Ellen DeGeneres Show?
It was 2019 and the actress was sitting across from host Ellen DeGeneres when she took the opportunity to set the record straight.
DeGeneres had made a quip about not being invited to Johnson’s birthday. What came next would go down in interview history.
“Actually, no, that’s not the truth, Ellen. You were invited,” the actress responded.
“Last time I was on the show, last year. You gave me a bunch of s–t for not inviting you but I didn’t even know you wanted to be invited.”
Mailed gorilla poop to a friend’s ex
If you ever need someone to help you through a breakup, Johnson is your gal.
While doing a lie detector test for Vanity Fair during the Materialists press tour, the actress was confronted with one past act.

Johnson was asked to confirm or deny if she’s “once sent a man who broke your friend’s heart a gallon of gorilla s–t.”
Strapped up to a lie detector, the actress settled on telling the truth.
“I mean, there’s no way that he would watch this, so, yes, I did do that,” she confirmed.
“And it’s been quite a while. It’s been some years.”
She even shared where she ordered it from: a site called “S—senders.com”.
“You can order any kind, any size.”
’Aren’t you supposed to let people talk on this show?’
When you’re on a talk show, the expectation is to talk.
During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in 2018, Johnson was trying to get through a story when Fallon kept interrupting.
Eventually, the actress heaved a sigh.
”Aren’t you supposed to let people talk on this show?” she quipped with a giggle.
Fallon laughed and jokingly replied, “If they know what they’re talking about, yes!”
The most chaotic dream you’ll ever hear
Johnson’s dreams took her on quite the wild journey one night.
The star shared her bizarre dream with fellow actress Amy Poehler while on the latter’s podcast, Good Hang. Spoiler: it features The 1975 frontman Matty Healy.
Johnson said Healy was “murdering people” in her dream. But it gets stranger.
“When the people were looking for him – they were cops, maybe. I don’t know – he would turn into a piece of asparagus.”

The star said she then tried to find Healy when she made a wild discovery.
“I saw these two poles and a bed and I was like, ‘Matty?’ and the sheets came down and it was him as an asparagus and Angelina Jolie as an asparagus.
“They were getting married and they left in a helicopter together as asparagus.”
When she poked fun at ‘failing’ to play a superhero
While her Materialists co-star Chris Evans, AKA Captain America, had quite the success playing a superhero, Johnson’s venture into the genre didn’t get the same positive reception.
The actress starred in Marvel’s Madame Web in 2024, which famously did not do well.
On Hot Ones, she took a hilarious jab at the backlash over her superhero role.
Host Sean Evans told the actress that he was “no superhero” while they both struggled through eating a spicy chicken wing – as per the premise of the YouTube show.
“I’m also not a superhero. Tried. Failed,” Johnson quipped, looking dead at the camera.
She used to put hair in men’s jacket pockets
Yep, you read that right.
In 2022, Johnson reunited with her The Social Network co-star Andrew Garfield for an interview with Vanity Fair when she revealed a wild thing she used to do at parties.
At one point in the interview, Garfield reminisced on seeing Johnson at a party.
The actress recalled she used to have hair extensions put in.

“At those parties, I’d probably get a little drunk and then just take them out,” she said.
Johnson confessed she would “put them in men’s jacket pockets, because they’re so annoying and I’d just find a place to put them.”
When Garfield queried why men’s jacket pockets specifically, Johnson replied, “Because they’re so available.”

She made headlines for her wild sleep pattern
Back in 2023, Johnson did an interview with The Wall Street Journal that ended up with the headline: “Dakota Johnson likes to sleep for 14 hours a night”.
When asked about the viral interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon a few months later, Johnson clarified that’s not entirely accurate.
“I didn’t even say that like that. I said that I could easily sleep for 14 hours, but I don’t like, demand it,” she told Fallon.
“I’m not a monster. I have a job,” she said with a laugh.
“I don’t have to take anything to sleep like that, either,” she said later in the chat.
“I can just sleep like that. I think if I took an Ambien, I’d wake up next year.”
