Death Cab for Cutie returned to NPR for their second Tiny Desk performance.
They started the set with “Pep Talk” and “Stone Over Water” from their latest LP, I Built You a Tower, before reaching back into their discography to play 2003’s Transatlanticism single “Title and Registration” and “Soul Meets Body” from 2005’s Plans.

“A lot of [our songs] are becoming oldies now,” vocalist/guitarist Ben Gibbard says. “I’m starting to realize that some of our earlier records came out a similar distance away from, like, the Beatles records when I was a kid.”
This Tiny Desk performance is their first with a full lineup — in 2015, Gibbard had a broken wrist, singing solo without a guitar, with Zac Rae on piano and Nick Harmer on bass.
The band recently wrapped the North American leg of their tour and will begin their Europe and U.K. leg later this fall.
